Wilford Brimley, who worked his way up from movie stunt rider to an indelible character actor who brought gruff charm, and sometimes menace, to a range of films that included Cocoon, The Natural, and The Firm, has died. He was 85. Brimley’s manager, Lynda Bensky, said the actor died Saturday in a Utah hospital.

I always enjoyed his roles. RIP
What a great voice and personality.
Mormon.
Diabeeetus.
I blame oatmeal.
Wilfred wont’ be down for his morning bowl of oatmeal this morning.
He had one of the most iconic great looking Western cowboy mustaches ever, him and Sam Elliot.
I still well recall the hair standing up on the back of my neck the first time I saw him in “Absence of Malice.” He was a dead ringer for my dad, both in appearance and mannerisms. It was spooky to say the least.
Are we sure? Because he dies every year, it seems. lol.
Well, I guess this one took.
Thanks for all the Diabeetus ads, Wilford. AND that movie, “The Thing” 🙂
He looked 85 in 1985. Must have had a rough life.
Mr. Brimley, you will be missed. RIP.

“Thanks for all the Diabeetus ads, Wilford. AND that movie, “The Thing” 🙂”
…OMG, I forgot he was in John Carpenter’s “The Thing”, he was GREAT in that!
…also one of the BEST movie lines EVER (but it wasn’t his…)

“it’s weird and it’s pissed off”.
…ALL the information you need, quickly delivered, it’s a threat and needs a creative solution.
…only information-packed line with a shorter delivery than THAT was delivered by Nichelle Nichols’ “Uhura” character in the Star Trek episode “the Naked Time” where a crazed Sulu grabbed her and said “I’ll protect you, fair maiden!”, to which she replied, “Sorry, NEITHER” (at 0:35)…
…think about it…

…RIP Wilford Brimley. When I see oatmeal and hear of diabetes, I will always think of you…
He always had a mature look to him
Was he the wild hickory nuts guy?
No, dee… that was Euell Gibbons for GRAPE NUTS.
He was full of sh!t. They taste like crunchy cat litter.
The wild hickory nuts guy was Euell Gibbons who did commercials for Grape Nuts cereal. They didn’t taste like crunchy cat litter when I bowl of grape Nuts for breakfast this morning.
Probably the love of my life showed me the gate for a variety of reasons, mostly justifiable. One thing she said is that I would look like Wilford Brimley when I got old. She wasn’t wrong, but a thinner, much thinner Wilford….
Gibbons died in 1975 after eating a handful of wild asparagus plucked from the edges of a dog-run at a Pennsylvania kennel.
“My Dear Lord – could we please get Wilford Brimley back and give up Tony “The Fcuk” Fauci instead? Asking for the World.”
WHAT?! They totally left out his role as Blair in John Carpenter’s 1982 version of “The Thing”. (IMO the best role he ever had.) Rest in peace, Mr. Brimley.
Woss rong with crunchy cat litter?
RIP.
Enjoyed his work.
He was always fun to watch.
@Ann Thracts – I am not going to ask how you know what crunchy cat litter tastes like 😛
Brimley was a unique actor with a unique voice, we’ll miss you for sure.🕊️❤️🙏 RIP
He had an engaging screen persona and I don’t recall ever seeing him play a part that he didn’t do well.
He was a scene stealer!
Crunchy cat litter? New or “used”?
Tony R, used is no longer crunchy. Mostly.
RIP Wilford Brimley; enjoyed your work.
Good for you, geoff; it pays to keep aardvarks ‘regular’ 🙂
Mr. Brimley was a menacing villain in the movie, The Firm, which by chance has just started playing on TMC channel. But I will also remember many of his other delightful roles.
