Rona my ass. Manufacturing “chips’ is an automated process. Those factories run lights out. Unfortunately most those factories are parked in China. This is what happens when you make a potential enemy a key part of your supply chain.
Maybe they could do a line of vehicles without anything computer in them? So that I can buy a new one? Because I will not drive around in a moving GPS tracker. Or a vehicle that is not fully mechanical and which I cannot repair myself. Or electric.
Shortage of everything! The supply chain is drying up. Our business we cannot get well pipe, check valves, certain types of well wire, tanks and pumps are also in short supply. Those are just the big items. Small items like copper and PVC fittings are also on back order.
Parts for our trucks are difficult to get. We ordered aluminum heads for a motor and they are not available for months…if ever.
Thanks to shutting down the world because of “covid” everything is back ordered or just not available.
Wait till it hits the grocery stores. Someone needs to pay for this politically engineered fiasco!!!

On a factual note, GM, Ford & Chrysler are notorious for absolutely stupid & unfair practices with their suppliers. The chip makers would rather manufacture for NON AUTO. No one wants to admit that fact. They are ALWAYS in arrears, they have very punitive back charges & penalties, they actually want lower quality electronics, and they go semi-bankrupt regularly.
I would not sell GM a used roll of asswipe after the way they have treated their customers, suppliers, & Governments.

I have an F150 4×4 Lariat SCREW w/Max Tow that gets nearly 22mpg on the highway empty if set at 60mph and can tow ~12,500 over the pass at 60 mph. I’m pretty damn happy with Ford light trucks, this one is like riding on a sofa in your front room.

I recently stuffed my pantry with a couple more months of food stock, up to about 5-6 months for a family of 4. Still looking for more. One thing I can guarantee, food ain’t going to get cheaper.
There are shortages of everything because

They use a 4000 series Aluminum for those trucks. It’s a Naval/Aquatics grade alloy. Pretty tough. I would not hesitate owning one. Just not a real Ford lover.
The Steel shelving systems work loose regularly with the aluminum beds. The aluminum & 600 lbs of weight saving are great for driving results & speed but not from an up fitter/construction point of view.
We run F-150’s 2011,12,14, & E250’s 2014 (Steel & Frames). More fuel but no structural issues and never any serious down time. Ford Transits have been quite bad for trade buddies of mine. (Brakes & Giubo joints) Guibo=flexi coupler.

My buddy leases the twin turbo V-6 lager eco boost. Much faster that a 80’s mustang. He just gets a new one every 3 years. I keep my shit for 10 to 12 years and will only take the V-8’s which have been very very good.
I’ll stick to my 1999 Jeep wrangler and 2006 Canyon…both have been extremely reliable.
Besides, just about everything new is so girlie without manual trasmission…just don’t like automatics.
I don’t know where GM is shopping but the chip isle at Walmart is always full.

It has been very good to me. The 5L Coyote V8 is another engineering masterpiece.
The 5L Coyote in a base Mustang GT will eat a Boss 69/70 302 for lunch on a quarter mile run, has way better braking and handling and is way more comfortable to drive across the state in.
The damn things will turn a quarter mile in the very low 12s, you can go way deeper into a turn before having to get on the brakes and will stay hooked up under full throttle coming out of a turn. A 428 CJ or Boss 429 turn a 14 second quarter mile.
I drove a lot of late 60’s early 70’s muscle (GT 350, Boss 302, Mach 1s, big block [both FE & 385] Cyclones, Torinos and Fairlanes) and this thing is a MONSTER. I drove one a while back and it was thoroughly impressive.
That trucks not getting past my chipped Duramax. LOL
There’s diesel specialty shops buying 2006 2007 diesel trucks and going through them, cleaning them up and reselling them for damn near what they sold for new. No smog, and who the hell needs a heads up display on their truck anyway?

@JDHasty, your comments about the V8 coyote are spot on. Last year when i was only 69 i bought a Mustang GT Premium with the 460 hp, plenty strong for me. It is a joy to drive especially in sport mode, never had any problems with it. Puts a smile on every face when it starts up with that big ka-whoom then rumble rumble rumble! Unexpected bonus, when driving on interstate at 70+ mph i get 30 mpg. What’s not to love?!
I’m getting ready to sell my 2014 Ford Explorer, outright, no trade. This is a pretty good time to do so. I won’t buy another Ford. I’m highly disappointed. Three recalls, multiple stupid things broken and fixed under the extended warranty, several very poor design issues that my 2000 model year Toyota had done right.
I Drove the new Bronco last week. Small, tinny, not a commuter. VERY capable off-road. I’m not the target buyer. I’d never take it out where it would shine. I wasn’t impressed with it. If I was an off-roader I would probably be in Heaven over this truck. It is one very capable dirt machine.
Cynic, wifeys do for a new suv. We were hanging out to see the new Bronco II. Tell me it’s not the same miniature frame. Ford really fucked up.
Within a couple months my wife will be looking for a new vehicle. She’s not even sure she wants to drive, but will be looking. I’ll be considering any good input and opinions. Something that keeps the driver safe after hitting a tree would be a plus.
