15. I am of Hispanic descent but pocha AF. I was a democrat for years. One of the first things that made me start side eyeing the democrat party was when I would receive campaign materials in Spanish, simply based on having a Hispanic surname. I don’t speak Spanish. My family has been in the US for GENERATIONS. I have always considered myself to be 100% American. I realized that the democrat party would never see me as such. Despite a lineage going back more than 100 years, I would always be less than American to democrats. Once the scales fell from my eyes, it was easy to leave the democrat party.
