Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that “several Americans” remain detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan after the Biden administration’s withdrawal from the country in the summer of 2021.
Blinken’s comments came during an exchange with Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Thursday to examine the “State of American Diplomacy in 2023: Growing Conflicts, Budget Challenges, and Great Power Competition.”
“There are several Americans who are being detained by the Taliban. We are working to secure their freedom. The families have asked that we protect their identities and don’t speak publicly to their cases,” Blinken responded when asked by Wilson how many Americans remain in the war-torn country. more here
“Several” likely means several HUNDRED. How much will Joe pay for their release? We are already sending them millions.

When you have a step on every rake within a hundred-mile radius president, it is impossible to keep up with all the fuck ups.
With all the Afghan news about massive starvation and depredation, civil rights abuses, mistreatment of women, and the concerted march back to the 12th century, I forgot about all the Americans stranded there and the callous disregard and contempt exhibited by Biden and his cabal of incompetents.
A few honest reporters will keep their story front and center, despite the fact that Blinken and company would prefer a new crisis emerge, one that will easily distract.
“No one left behind”, this saying no longer has any meaning.
Biden obviously doesn’t give a damn about those left behind, the J6 Prisoners or the American people who are suffering from Biden’s policies, run away spending, national debt, inflation, energy crisis and economic disaster he created.
