California Gov. Newsom redirects gas tax money to fund railway systems, climate change projects

Instead of the highways it was intended for.

CBS47: With a stroke of his pen, California Governor Gavin Newsom has redirected part of the money you pay at the pump with the state’s gas tax to the railway system and other projects.

Governor Newsom signed Executive Order N-19-19.

It calls for leveraging billion in annual state transportation funds to reduce green house gases and emissions.

The order directs money away from fixing local highways, stalling important projects here in the valley.

Valley Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R)-Fresno, is upset and wants Republicans and Democrats in the state to speak out.

Assemblyman Patterson says, “One of the very first things Governor Newsom decides to do, is put forward an executive order and his people at Caltrans have decided they are going to terminate addition north and south freeway lanes on Highway 99 in Tulare and Madera County. I’m almost speechless with response to this.”

According to the Caltrans report, the projects cost a total of 17-million dollars. But that is not all.

  1. So the money from that ‘yet another tax’ tax is not going where it was supposed to go!
Wow, who would’ve seen that coming?

  2. There was a reason California enacted such strict gun laws. There would be a revolution otherwise.

Speaking of California, it just occurred to me that PG&E will not be out any money from turning off the power. They’ll just raise rates to cover it.

  3. Basically this same scam is used throughout the entire west coast. State, county and jurisdiction revenues earmarked for transportation are diverted to purposes only tangentially related to transportation and even when it is “transportation” it is not what the public had been lead to believe the money to be spent on.

  4. So, in Shitlinois they doubled the gas tax. From $0.19/gal to $0.38/gallon. All the townships and counties rejoiced at how they will have extra money to improve roads. 2 months in, they reported the increased revenue by township. I live in the sticks, the biggest centralized location in the county is about 18,000 people. So for 2 months these revenues won’t seem large, I’ll list 3 to make my point.

    Same time period, all scenarios.

    Town A – last year $25,967 this year $37,456

    Town B – last year $6,398 this year $8,467

    Town C – last year $12,165 this year $17,627

As you can clearly see, DOUBLING THE TAX DIDN’T DOUBLE THE REVENUE!

What happened? Are people getting their gas outside the county, because the next county over has traditionally always been cheaper? Maybe even purchasing out of state?

    Something stinks!

  5. The state is going to implode–it is only a matter of time.

I just hope it happens while a republican is president. And that republican HAD BETTER LET IT GO DOWN THE SHITHOLE WITHOUT ANY BAILOUTS.

  6. I see nothing has changed since I lived there.

The teachers unions are in front of the grocery stores with petitions to raise taxes for schools more often than the girl scouts are there selling cookies.

  7. Let me see if I understand:

A Party member, in good standing with The Party, appointed to a Party post, with the “consent” of the people, but only after approval to ask the people for “their consent” was granted by The Party, claims to “believe and avow” that xe truly, honestly, believed that all, every single, Party cash shake down, was not a single, simple, slush fund?

And the people should support xim. Because xe’s offended. And smaht.

Does that about sum it up? (coz math is hard)

Why would people (spending their own money, not everybody else’s), who are already in a mechanically propelled device, pilot that device somewhere that fuel, for that device, is cheaper? That doesn’t make any sense.

  10. Jerry Brown: “I’m the worst governor California’s ever had.”
Gavin Newsome: “You’re a piker, and I’ll prove it.”
Meanwhile, the potholes grow and grow, and the pot business ain’t gonna save Lalaland like it saved Colorado.

  11. Personally, I am convinced Gov. Newsom will reconsider his executive order and that this story will prove to be a fake.

Excuse me – there is a Nigerian prince at my door, and he’s probably delivering my $100,000,000 in cash due to my assistance in getting his assets out of the country.

  12. Cutting off the federal funding to California would totally pop their collective, Liberal balloon! Better to do it now than sit around waiting for the inevitable! Besides, I’m tired of my tax dollars funding their dystopian, Liberal “paradise”!
