Everyone who’s been paying attention has known all along that this was a scam to get federal money into the state budget to pretend it’s balanced.
The original route was going to connect San Diego to Sacramento and Turdville via LA.
Then they decided to cut it down to connect Bakersfield to Stockton or some other nameless towns in the San Juaquim Valley.
It’s still a boondoggle.

It might as well be a train to Timbuktu. Bakersfield is not a place people are dying to get to, nor Stockton, Fresno, Madeira, etc.
