Californians Need Not Apply

Newser-

Real estate signs are typically pretty straightforward things, but in Portland they’re getting weirdly specific—with stickers popping up featuring a map of California in a red circle with a slash through it. It’s not entirely clear who’s behind the “no Californians” signs, reports the Oregonian, but the sentiment is on the rise as the housing market heats up, making bidding wars the norm in desirable neighborhoods. “A lot of these guys are getting outbid,” says one real estate agent. “And I think they’re going around to agents who have properties that have sold over ask price and putting anti-California stickers.”

KGW estimates that about 25% to 30% of Portland homebuyers come from California, looking to score cheaper housing and armed with higher salaries. “There’s the lowest inventory we’ve had in over 10 years, and people are frustrated,” says the agent. Another is less sympathetic: “Unfortunately Portland’s retired hipsters are going to have to get jobs if they want to live in North Portland,” one real estate agent tells KGW.

  1. Scumbag California has an “exit tax” on its fleeing scumbag residents. You guys should create an “entry tax” on these scumbags and get your money up front from these pieces of shit. Get $50,000 right off the bat for all the headaches they will surely cause your wonderful state.

  2. I spent time in Everett Washington, assignment for work.
The first thing out of all the natives mouth was: “Where you from?”
This was 30 years ago and they hated folks from CA already.
After they found out I wasn’t from the land of fruits and nuts, fished and hunted, was welcomed like a returning brother.
Everett has to have the most boats per capita than most anywhere.
They hated the invaders for the same reason as Portlandia.

  3. I recently place some ads around town for a guitar amplifier I was trying to sell. I kept getting calls from nutjob people who mentioned that they were from California (maybe to show that they weren’t stupid hillbillies like me?). So I redid the ad with an additional line below the phone number:

    NO CALIFORNIANS!

  4. I was born in Eugene, but raised in Humboldt Co. California. I now live in Shasta Co, but only go to Oregon to visit relatives. Their newspapers are unreadable, unless you are preparing yourself for a cage match and the politics is decidedly unsustainable. Perfect!

Californians have been Californicating Oregon for decades. They have taken over political leadership and are driving Oregon into the ground. About the only thing left to cheer about in Oregon is the football…..Go Ducks!
