Daryn Colledge: One of the Best Soldiers We’ve Got

After playing 9 years in the NFL as an offensive line man and winning a Super Bowl ring in 2010, Daryn Colledge signed up with the Idaho National Guard for an 8 year commitment and is currently training to be a black hawk mechanic for the 168th aviation regiment.

The title for this post is from a comment on a Green Bay Packer blog left by a Sergeant First Class who’s instructing in Virginia and made a point to seek out and meet Specialist Colledge.

What makes it even better, is that he’s one of the best Soldiers we’ve got. No sort of sense of entitlement or expectation of special treatment. He does absolutely everything he’s told to do (to include cleaning latrines) without a single complaint and actually leads his fellow Soldiers (who are generally younger than he is) in the accomplishment of tasks. He only granted interviews to military affiliated media sources and apparently refused an interview from ESPN. According to him, he didn’t want to glamorize himself but to instead do something (with the media) that would bring attention to the military as a whole. Very selfless guy.

  1. On the other hand, San Francisco 49er QB, Colin Kaepernick, refused to stand for the national anthem at Friday nights game (8/26/16) against the Green Bay Packers, saying:
“I am not going to stand up and show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color…..There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and people getting away with murder.”
What a guy. I can’t for this scumbag to get his DUI, wife-beating charge, or just shoot himself in the leg in a nightclub at 3am while out partying. You know it’s going to happen.

  2. Your country should be proud of him. Now compare him to that SF QB Kaepernick who now refuses to stand for your National Anthem and goes off on a tirade on how America oppresses blacks and other colored people. What a fundamental difference. The NFL which prides itself as “America’s Game” did nothing but support his freedom to state what he wanted. Although I shouldn’t be surprised with the number of thugs and criminals they have in the league. In any event after the his stats for the exhibition game he may not be back too soon and I’ll bet other teams won’t have an interest (although I was wrong about Michael Vick).

“” Rodney Earl Sanders, 46, of Kosciusko, Mississippi, has been arrested and charged in the deaths of Sister Margaret Held and Sister Paula Merrill. The county sheriff said Sanders confessed to the killings although many people are struggling to comprehend why anyone would want to take the two women’s lives. “”

  4. The Military if full of scholar athletes no one knows about. They graduate from the Military Academies and lead quiet lives. Many of them would thrive in professional athletics but give their time to the military for a fraction of the salary.

  5. Kaepernick’s stunt is not going over well in Northern Cali. They had a couple jersey burning parties yesterday. He sucked last year. This might be the last straw.

  6. Oh man-o-man did the Broncos ever dodge a bullet with Colin. He was in the QB race after Peyton retired right up till the end. What a complete asshole. I’ll bet his team mates are fit to be tied. Will earn 19 MILLION DOLLARS this year to throw a football. I say he’s radioactive now.

And then you’ve got men like Mr Colledge.

  7. I had similar thoughts about Colin K. as others here; he rode the pine last year, but this year he has a new coach. Seems like a good time to make a good impression on new coach to get back on the field and play. But then he pulls this shit instead. Real smaht guy. Shoot yourself in the foot (not like Plaxico who REALLY shot himself in the foot).
