duhh – CDC director acknowledges hospitals have a monetary incentive to overcount coronavirus deaths

Wash Exam-

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield agreed that some hospitals have a monetary incentive to overcount coronavirus deaths as they do deaths for other diseases.

“I think you’re correct in that we’ve seen this in other disease processes, too. Really, in the HIV epidemic, somebody may have a heart attack but also have HIV — the hospital would prefer the [classification] for HIV because there’s greater reimbursement,” Redfield said during a House panel hearing Friday when asked by Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer about potential “perverse incentives.”

Redfield continued: “So, I do think there’s some reality to that. When it comes to death reporting, though, ultimately, it’s how the physician defines it in the death certificate, and … we review all of those death certificates. So I think, probably it is less operable in the cause of death, although I won’t say there are not some cases. I do think though [that] when it comes to hospital reimbursement issues or individuals that get discharged, there could be some play in that for sure.”

  1. Especially the state run hospitals like here in Maine.
When they announce any new deaths they parse words. It goes something like this: Maine now has had 124 deaths of people with covid.
Not from or of covid. With covid.
They have counted stroke, heart attack, etc in the death toll.
Can you imagine the fraud NY is pulling with this stuff?

  2. The Dems have been pushing “Trump Bungled the Coronavirus Response” for months, yet every day, more people are becoming aware that it was the corrupt, venal, malicious and ill-informed federal and state bureaucracies, coupled with moronic and tyrannical governors and mayors, who were the true bunglers. People have seen and experienced too much bullshit locally to buy the “Trump Bungled the Coronavirus Response” canard.

When the CDC director has to give a limited hangout like this on hospital fraud, you know the jig is up. People have been living their lives too long with numbers that don’t match up to personal experience, and they are getting angry at the manipulators, not Trump. People want their jobs and lives back from the bureaucrats and governors. Who’s their best hope for that?

  3. @beachmom

Or they announce that “254 deaths from the Covid were reported on Day X”, neglecting to tell you that the deaths had all occurred over the previous month, were trending downward from the first day of that month, from 30 deaths on day 1 to 0 deaths on day 30, and the number reported on Day X was the adding up of all those daily deaths. Yet they keep pulling that trick, even when it’s exposed.

  4. Those that want an uninformed public rely on all the confusing sewage being pumped into the news cycles.
It takes time and effort to sift through the garbage to get an idea of where the truth lies. Most people are busy and misplace their trust in news sources that manipulate the truth.

  5. One would think that the sacred individuals that we all have been praising for continuing to care for the sick, would not do something underhanded like over counting the WuHuFlu numbers.
    Bullshit!
The healthcare industry is nothing but a huge monopoly of greedy corporations that will stop at nothing to make a buck.
And, while many individuals do care, most are in the profession because of the above average pay.

  6. The democrat party and the anti-Trumpers also have an incentive to over count coronavirus deaths, and ought to be added to the hospital list of beneficiaries from over counting deaths.

Almost four years in and they still haven’t accepted the result of the last presidential election. Over counting deaths is another strategy to change the next one in ninety days to their advantage.
