H-1B Visa Architect: Program ‘Hijacked’ to ‘Displace Americans’

’60 Minutes’ special highlights voices of U.S. workers replaced by foreigners.

“I’m outraged. The H-1B has been hijacked as the main highway to bring people from abroad and displace Americans.”

LifeZette: Former Rep. Bruce Morrison (D-Conn.) said the 1990 H-1B visa program he helped craft has been “hijacked” to routinely replace American workers with cheaper foreign labor. He made his comments during a special that aired Sunday on CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

CBS Evening News journalist Bill Whitaker explored the controversy surrounding the H-1B visa program, which allows American corporations to hire foreign workers. Morrison insisted the bill he helped create was intended to help companies fill scientific jobs with qualified candidates. He accused companies of shamelessly outsourcing thousands of jobs to younger, cheaper, and temporary foreign workers through a loophole that allows companies to hire the foreign workers for jobs paying over $60,000.

“I’m outraged. The H-1B has been hijacked as the main highway to bring people from abroad and displace Americans,” Morrison told Whitaker. “It’s really a travesty that should never have been allowed to happen.”

  1. Time to retroactively say NO to a shit pot fulla Visas. What those bastards got away with at Disneyland is a disgrace. Boycott Disneyland. Lots of good American citizens tossed to the curb so Disney could bring in more cheap-labor dregs. Shame on them. Another great day. Every single grandparent at coffee group had already made the decision to boycott.

  2. One awful thing is that the H1B visa program has done to the white collar STEM professions, what illegal immigrants have done to the blue collar professions: It has excluded Americans, and white men in particular, from the entry-level jobs.

The consequences are now beginning to be felt, as there are no competent experienced people to move up the ladder, after 20+ years of H1B insanity.

We have lost an entire generation of people, and it is only going to get worse. I don’t imagine for a second that this was not the intended consequence of this program.

The people that put this in place, and those that kept it in place, all deserve to be executed.

  3. Hey, PHenry. I got laid off from a job I had for nearly 17 years and replaced by some guy from India. I was making $110,000 per year, they pay him $60,000. They laid off all us guys over 50. It was a high-tech job.

As a victim of H1B visa abuse, I can tell you it is true. The H1B visa program should be eliminated altogether.
