Heinz was so cheap that when they arranged for an online promotion for its customers (design your own label) they only reserved the domain name for a short period of time, opening themselves up to possible shenanigans.
Ketchup bottles that had the website on them outlasted the domain’s expiration. A new company purchased the domain and put up their own website – it had 57 varieties as well… of hard core porn.
The site, a German one, is aware of the controversy and has put something about ketchup on their front page.

I just heard an ad yesterday for their new mustard. Rather than say it’s improved they essentially said the old version was no good. It’s yellow mustard! Lousy ad agency, dumb company.
Heinz was bought out by 3G Capital, a Warren Buffett backed investment group. They are notorious cost-cutters and lay-off proponents.
