Japan Goes Back After Whales – IOTW Report

Japan Goes Back After Whales

The Japanese are coming off a one year hiatus, after losing an International Court of Justice ruling in 2014, by launching a fleet of one processing and three hunting vessels for the waters of the Antarctic to resume whaling.

The Japanese have always claimed that taking the animals was for scientific study, with the excess sold on the market.

If only the Japanese government had done some study into the levels of mercury and PCB in whale meat and asked food wholesalers if they can even sell the stuff they might decide it’s not worth the hassle and bad publicity.

  1. I deer hunt-elk and antelope too and I think it’s wrong to kill whales-yeah I know, weird. Wonder why?

Also elephants, lions and tigers. Maybe they’re too majestic. Maybe because I never worry about hitting them at night in my truck.

Bears I’m on the fence about, never hunted one and if one was chasing me, I sure as hell would shoot it but never studied them for a hunt.

But whales? Nope. I’ve seen them off the coast of CA and also in Hawaii and they are damn cool animals.

  2. It seems like the Japanese government subsidies and supports whaling, not because they actually like to the meat, but to reassert their right to hunt whales in the future (perhaps after all the other viable fish stocks have been exhausted).

  3. “The Japanese have always claimed that taking the animals was for scientific study, with the excess sold on the market.”

Wait. . . . what?. . . Where else have we heard this style of excuse and rationalization? PP, anyone? Buehler? Buehler?

I wonder what the Japanese Gooberment and people’s take is on abortions?

  4. It’s like the stupid Chi-Coms eating dogs and cats. It’s fuc*ing barbaric and stupid. I mean seriously, how many whales do you need to kill in order to “study them”?
