REMEMBER THIS ART PIECE FROM A RUTGERS ART EXHIBIT?
Well, the student paper published a cartoon that depicted Muhammad and there were complaints. so what did the editors do?
And they destroyed every copy of the paper.
What do I say?

It is hard to imagine that all of the papers were destroyed and not even one ended up in the hands of a friend of free speech. I’d gladly contribute a few bucks to an effort to print up more of them for, um, appropriate distribution.
Rutgers – One of the Poison Ivy League
Who ever would have thought that we would have a true tyranny of the minority in the country. a very tiny minority of Homosexuals, Transgenders and Muslims are all now ruling the roost and calling the shots!
@BFH – I like the snake-bearded Mo image, but see no signature or credit. Whose work is that, please?
So Christians complained about the Jesus piece and it was removed. Now Muslims complain about the Muhammad cartoon and it’s removed too.
Many religious people seem to have a real problem with free speech rights…
SOMEBODY had to have saved a copy of that paper. I want to see that totally righteous cartoon!
The Rutgers folks were probably just afraid that the Muslims would go on a bloody rampage because of it, the same as the Christians did over the Jesus dartboard artwork.
Oh, wait —
True, the Christians just wanted to censor free speech. It was non-violent (which is commendable) but it was still censorship (which is not).
JW, I think the free speech goes both ways. Christians have a right to voice their disapproval and are not violent about it.
That Rutgers student newspaper should start running this cartoon strip instead:

I mean, if you’re gonna be a bear, be a grizzly…
?
Gladys,
Don’t feed the trolls. They’re just like coons … they’ll bite you, they appreciate nothing, and they think you owe them.
They are also incapable of civil discourse.
Come to think of it, JohnS. and James Webb have a similar ring … something in the cadence, perhaps …
izlamo delenda est …
BFH, I like the Muhammed image, but the image cuts off so you can’t see the goat or 9-year old he’s raping.
The salient point is that Rutgers DESTROYED all the evidence of the mo picture and APOLOGIZED, but merely removed the one of Christ.
izlamo delenda est …
I commented on the original post saying I wasn’t offended, but upon reflection, I AM offended that such simple executions of an ideas are called art. True art would have been if the Rutgers’ student had actually created a dart board, depiction of Jesus and darts instead of just taking already existing items and putting them together.
Anthing called art should be more than the idea – it should show original execution – painting, drawing, sculpting, etc.
darn sent before finished…The cartoon could be called art under my classification. At the very least, if the idea was original and the drawing was more than stick figures (my ability, sadly).
Gladys- I agree free speech goes both ways and everyone should be able to express their opinions about it. My point was that when the jesus/dartboard art piece was removed because of complaints several commenters on this site celebrated giving in to the criticism and its removal. Just seems like people don’t care about free speech as much when it’s something they disagree with.
Tim- Just having a conversation, if you disagree with anything I’ve said feel free to challenge me on it. Don’t know who JohnS is, don’t care.
Graceia- Art is just like humor, it’s completely subjective and pretty much anything can be categorized as such. And I disagree that using existing items to create something new isn’t art, I consider collage to be a legitimate example of that.
Ah, James, I consider collage to be craft.
So we agree to disagree.
Jesus, Buddha and Mohammed have a management meeting in heaven to discuss how to control world population.
(I know, the joke requires a serious suspension of belief)
Jesus says, “Another big earthquake then, Gents?”
Mohammed says, “Nah, just kill all the infidels.”
Buddha says, “Don’t kill anyone; we must love all living beings, except pedophiles!”
Jesus says, “OK, let’s just kill all the pedophiles!”
Mohammed says, “There you go again Jesus, wanting to wipe out all the Muslims!”
