Jimmy Carter Is Gone

AP News

Former President Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100. The 39th president of the United States was a Georgia peanut farmer who sought to restore trust in government when he assumed the presidency in 1977 and then built a reputation for tireless work as a humanitarian. He earned a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

He died Sunday, more than a year after entering hospice care, at his home in Plains, Georgia. More

  1. What taints an ex-president’s reputation the most is their conduct after they leave office.

No doubt all presidents have regrets, things they wish they could do over, and the best way to handle that is to write a book sycophants will buy it, just ask Michelle Obama. But when you can’t go quietly, when you embarrass yourself trying to remain relevant and inject your opinions of events when no one is asking you, you become another hanger’s on and look pathetic.

Carter did all these things. They always think they are more important than they are.

  2. @Wyatt — Agreed, thank you. While there’s much about Jimmah to be critical about, and there’s no hesitation to do that, no one seems to remember that he did some good stuff, too. Just two examples, he appointed Paul Volcker as Fed chairman, and he was the only one of those in my lifetime who actually tackled inflation successfully, and it was Carter who reversed a long trend of diminishing DoD appropriations and began building up the military again even before Reagan followed up.

There are a few more, but for a doofus Carter wasn’t all bad.

  3. It will be good to get that overproduced funeral out of the way.
Of course Trump will have to reside as President for Bill Clinton & Barack Hussein Obama’s funerals…

  4. Only two memories remain for me about Carter. The “oil crisis?” and the Iranian hostages complete fuck up….I was a sophomore in high school during the “oil crisis?” and I had 3 consecutive classes in the same classroom and it was 35 degrees in the room. There was no learning in that atmosphere….He was a failure as President and it kind of started with LBJ, Ford, Clinton. Obama then Biden. All democrats…

  5. He spent years going around the world ensuring election “integrity” EVERYWHERE BUT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. Building homes for the needy doesn’t make up for wilfully ensuring CIA coups and US election theft.

#3, 18% interest rates on home loans. Although I do agree he was for the most part a decent man. God rewarded him by letting him live long enough to see even a worse president than he was.

  7. I was stationed at Robins AFB when Carter was president. When he went home to Plains, AF1 would land at Robins. If you were in uniform you could go out on Perimeter Rd and watch the motorcade from the flight line, which I did once (got me out of the shop). One weekend the roomdog and I were bored out of our gourds, so we took a drive to Plains. They didn’t even have paved roads in Plains then. Went to Billy’s Garage and bought a six pack of Billy Beer, it was horrible beer.
The roomdog and I also went to Andersonville once, that was quite a sobering experience. Hey Popeye, if you’re out there, Wild Bill says hello.

  8. Timing… I posted a Meme on FB this Morning showing Him in the Hospital Pic

Caption: “If Jimmuh was a Senator, He’d still be in Office!”

  9. @ Brad…”God rewarded him by letting him live long enough to see even a worse president than he was.”….That was Obama’s plan all along. Obama was just hoping for the bronze medal of failure……At this conjuncture ( think Dubbya) Biden doesn’t even know he was President….

  10. He was fundamentally a nasty pernicious SOB. He is a race baiter who slandered and libeled anyone who opposed the bat eared Kenyan twink by saying that the reason people oppose him is solely because of his race.

I was cheering for the rabbit

  11. He was a Democrat until his final moments. This can never be excused.
I’m already sick of the accolades. HE. WAS. A. DEMOCRAT.

He wasn’t “a good man” or a “his heart was in the right place.

    HE WAS A DEMOCRAT.

  12. Every president since JFK, except 2, have been installed.
They controlled Reagan and manipulated Trump’s first term.
It won’t work this time, that’s why their shiiting their pants.
Remember they rolled Jimmy out to vote for Kamala.

  13. A lot of Christians including myself were snookered to vote for Jimmy Carter in the 76 presidential elections because it was the so-called Christian thing to do according to the Moral Majority. I have no excuse for voting for him in 1980 when I was a brain-dead liberal wannabe studying Social Work at EWU.

  14. I observantly lived through Carter’s Presidency.
The hagiographies on the teevee don’t match my memories.

God knows truly who he was and what he did or didn’t do. It’s not for us to judge him.

BUT, as usual, the Media is busy misrepresenting everything they can to suit themselves. They remain unrepentently no good.

  15. Bucketmouth was David Rockefeller’s errand boy. His whole foreign policy was Rockefeller’s doing. As for “good and decent”, look at the thugs he installed – Ramsey Clark, Califano, Harold Brown, Zbigniew Brzezinski (Mika’s dad), Cyrus Vance, Andrew Young, Bert Lance, and James R. Schlesinger.

A sanctimonious phony, wire to wire.

  16. Carter may have been the mild-mannered, do-gooder or so-called Christian he seemed to be, but he was duplicitous.
A typical Yellow Dog Democrat. Hell bent on supporting the Democrat agenda no matter how destructive. This was reflected in his policies.

He didn’t seem to have any original ideas and more than likely relied on
warhawk, industrial complex and environmental wackos as advisers when President.

Not going to mourn Carter’s passing. Never cared for him. He was blessed with a fulfilled life and lots of family who love him. Let them honor and memorialize a man I can only acknowledge served, not at all well or wisely as President of The United States of America.

  17. As promised I did my Snoopy dance when I heard. He was a disaster and a fraud as president. I hope he rots in Hell. Hope Biden and other top demonrats are soon to follow.
I also voted for Carter in my first election as a naive 18 year old. I voted Republican ever since.

  18. The only thing that saves him from being the worst president ever was that he wasn’t an a complete asshole, jerk-faced divider like Jug Ears and Brandon. Sky high interest rates/inflation, Iran hostages, Dept. of Education, gasoline lines; put on another sweater on those cold nights, Bucko, and turn off those Christmas lights! Everything he touched was a disaster. I liked his drunken brother, though. He didn’t have two F’s to rub together. Plus: Billy Beer!
