Jury: Greenpeace liable for hundreds of millions in damages over pipeline project protests

(The Center Square) – A North Dakota jury on Wednesday found environmental activist group Greenpeace liable for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for its activities related to protests of construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Dallas-based Energy Transfer sued Greenpeace over the sometimes violent protests that delayed construction of the pipeline by five months, costing the company lost profits and shareholder value.

A trial over the civil lawsuit began in February and concluded Wednesday, on the second day of deliberations. more

  1. I read a while back that Greenpeace is floundering. Don’t recall any details because I just thought “Good” and left it at that.

    Maybe it had something to do with this lawsuit, but whatever … I hope this is the end of them. Forever.

  2. Ran across an article in the EU papers where Greenpeace has filed a SLAPP action in the Netherlands to recover the amount of jury awarded in the US. Not sure how to verify this but it does seem “in character” to run to the EU for a case the EU should have zero jurisdiction?
