  1. The video is not good, and we do not know the nature of the circumstance that led to the conflict. These dogs are not strictly pets and when a command is given the animal must obey. It may be the dog flipped the owner off, or perhaps showed aggression in some part of the interaction. What seems harsh can perhaps be the only way to yank the slack out of a dogs attitude to preserve yourself as the alpha dog. If you don’t, you open yourself and those in your family to being bitten, for a good dog will always try to gain the top spot, to improve his position in the pack.
The best thing I can say is that the circumstances surrounding this including age of the dog and who it is in relationship to the handler and his skills should have been subjected to professional canine internal review. The public does not, and can not understand what it means to own a dog like this – they are not pets, and what seems harsh to you may be ugly, but it can be a way to straighten things out. If you think this sucked, look at how an Alpha male wolf treats an inferior who tries to steal food or improve his rank, it will be a lot uglier than this.
No excuses for poor handling skills, but it takes decades to become working dog smart. Really, all this behavior tells me is that the handler needs to learn better handling skills. Dogs do not understand emotion, or frustration. Keep it black and white.

  2. PS – one can’t judge this until your working German Shepherd has shown you a mouthful of teeth and told you to go to hell, or, come up the leash in obedience when you made too much pressure. When you know what to do then, you’ll look at this differently.

  3. I read the entire story, did you? The pos cop was drunk and escorted out of the building. He took his anger out on the dog. No fucking excuse. Dogs carry emotional baggage as do humans, my heartaches for the k-9. This is the shit that makes me cringe at humanity.

  4. The asshole was gorked out and was behaving EXACTLY like the sort of person the dog is trained to take down. The dog showed more restraint than it’s ‘handler.’

Also, drunk or not, if someone hit this cop, even while not on duty, he would be charged with assaulting an officer, dog or not. Notice how that was dropped.
