NBC philadelphia– Police are interviewing a bus driver they believe was involved in a deadly hit-and-run that happened only steps from police headquarters in Center City Philadelphia Tuesday.
The incident happened about 9:45 a.m. near the intersection of Franklin and Race Streets.
Investigators say 46-year-old Joseph Heard was in the crosswalk when he was struck by a large white tour bus from Yep Tour Inc. in Chinatown and dragged approximately 50 feet. A dozen passengers were also on board, according to a ticket taker at Yep.
Heard was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police say they found headphones at the scene of the crash though they’re unsure if they belonged to Heard.
Gotta take those headphones off or turn your music down when you’re surrounded by traffic. I don’t know how the guy couldn’t see a huge bus turning into him before he crossed that corner. Sheesh.
How sad.
I caught a bus once and it broke the webbing in my glove!
I caught a bus once. It was weaving out of control at a high rate of speed, going the wrong way down a busy NY City street during rush hour. I saw it from my penthouse office at Rockefeller Center. I dove out my window and flew 30 stories, landing on the bus roof. I used my swedish army knife to cut throught the roof and found the driver passed out from exhaust fumes. I climbed underneath and discovered the repair technician had improperly reassembled the exhaust pipe into the fresh air intake of the AC system. I then bent the burning hot pipe to the correct location with my bare hands and then lept back up on the roof. I held my breath and jumped into the bus and pulled the now breathless driver from the seat and regained control of the bus and brought it to a screetching halt, inches before running off the golden gate bridge. I then performed mouth to mouth and cpr at the same time and revived the driver. I turned around and found 60 unconscious children, passed out in their seats. I performed mouth to mouth on all 60 at once and revived every one.
I ran back to my offfice in time to freshen up and present the NBC Evening News on time!
Racist white buses.
