McDonald’s warns of health risk at 40 percent of India locations

40%? Well, that’s a bold statement.

Dec. 29 (UPI) — The quality of food at McDonald’s restaurants in north and east India are not up to company standards and customers may face health risks by eating there, the company announced.

McDonald’s said outlets run by Connaught Plaza Restaurants used ingredients that were not up to standard, and need to be shut down.

CPRL operates 160 McDonald’s restaurants in India, 84 of which were shut down earlier this week because a logistics partner, Radhakrishna Foodland, discontinued services over alleged non-payment of dues.

In August, McDonald’s terminated its franchise agreement with CPRL, causing several suppliers to pull out. Consequently, the company banned CPRL from using its brand name, trademarks, designs and food recipes.

Despite the legal battle and loss of suppliers, McDonald’s said CPRL kept the restaurants open.

“Since the termination of the franchise agreements, McDonald’s India has not been able to verify if the unauthorized McDonald’s restaurants operated by CPRL are complying with applicable McDonald’s standards, including those pertaining to supplies, operations and safety standards and quality required for McDonald’s products,” a McDonald’s India spokesperson said.

CPRL has dismissed the allegations, saying it has tried to discuss food quality and safety issues with McDonald’s for years, but has received no response.

Vikram Bakshi, CPRL’s managing director, accused McDonald’s leaders of skipping board meetings and said the international food chain adopted different standards for countries like India, which he said is an unacceptable double standard.

India has more than 400 McDonald’s restaurants.

  1. The accident at the Union Carbide pesticide plant (Bhopal, India 1984) stemmed from the fact that they could not make the Indians conform to the standards of properly maintaining the plant.
Second-hand (not third or fourth) info, but accurate.

  2. BTW – I stopped going to a certain fast food restaurant chain in my area years ago because they all got bought up by Indians. I really can’t put up with the filth and poor service I’ve experienced first hand at these places! I know it sounds bigoted, but I also know someone who works for a major maintenance organization who says the same thing when he goes to service the equipment in those locations!

  3. Look, this is about the Indian McDonalds offering veggie burgers in a country where the cow is sacred.

That’s the whole deal. It’s not about hygiene, its about rouge franchise operations not conforming to the McDonalds way.

    Next faux outrage.

  4. I worked with a software engineer at a credit card company about 12 years ago who was sent off to India to conduct a training session for the latest offshoring efforts by our asshole management at the time. He was a vegetarian and made the mistake of going out to a local restaurant used by the people he was training. He said he spent a solid 12 hours on the shitter ofter that, and felt like hell the rest of the week he was there.

  5. So if they don’t eat beef or pork in India, what do they eat? They worship rats as well so rats are out. Maybe they eat rally spicy curry dishes, I’m not a big curry fan. Rice burgers just wouldn’t do either. Maybe I should my friend Aaron’s Indian wife Bindi what they eat. She’s a great cook by the way and they eat a lot of pork.

  6. I despise a country that would rather their child starve or have to sift through cow shit for bits of grain than slaughter the fucking cows and feed their family. Primitive, savage pagans.
