  1. FUR,
Here’s wishing you, your family & the IOTW Family a Great Christmas Day.

Also here’s wishing Santa leaves every Prog in this country a “Lump Of Coal” ( charcoal briquette ) to give them that “Warm Feeling”, but it won’t last very long.

  3. I hope for all as a majestic Christmas as that card evokes, what a great scene.

The font is fantastic and whenever we see a red cardinal (male) we think of a loved one since passed.

Thanks @BFH and a Blessed Christmas to all the posters and yes lurkers and searchers!

  4. Huh, and I was just going to ask if you could do birds, Mr. Hat, to go with the dog commissions you’ve done for me.

And a little red bird answered my question.

Please check your email at your convenience regarding another little bird, and NOT one I’m flipping, either!

    But this is REALLY about the Miracle, so;

“7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.”
    Luke 2:7-17

  5. Nice Job BFH. The cardinal – maybe the most beautiful bird in the world.

Merry Christmas to all the great folks at IOTW. This has been my home for the last 1 1/2 years since I got ejected from Twitter and Ann Coulter closed her chat room.

  6. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of the IOTW crowd. May your Christmas be all you want and your New Year be better than you expect.

  7. …just a bit about the cardinal…

…my wife always called cardinals her “worry birds” ever since one appeared to her as she was praying for peace in the wake of the loss of an aunt she was very close to. This was while we were dating, and while I loved my lady very much even then, I was working two jobs, one of which was firefighting, so pretty irregular, and also I had not myself found the Lord and so I was scarcely a man of peace myself; and with my black humor about Death and nightly flirtations with it, of very little comfort to her.

She prayed, alone, that she could find peace, comfort, some sign from the Lord that all would yet be well…and a red bird came to her window.

There was nothing special about the window and he could no doubt see her, but he had no fear and did not fly, but fluffed his feathers, stared right at her in his black mask, sang her a little trill, then flipped his tail up and flew up to the sky. She said she felt the Spirit lift a great weight from her heart then, and she praised God for the small red messenger he sent.

Since then, whenever we’ve had trials and troubles (and who doesn’t), and prayed for the intercession and mercy of the Lord (I’ve since come to the Lord myself and joined her), most times when that prayer is answered, we’ve often seen it accompanied with a little red flutter of wings, almost like the Lord is personalizing the message the way he once comforted a distressed young lady dealing with a loss of a loved one many years ago…

Thank you, Lord, for Your comfort.
Thank you, Lord, for Your strength.
Thank you, Lord, for your mercy.
And thank you, God, for Your Son.

Merry Christmas and may the Lord bless you all as He has us, and send you a harbinger of His love as well.

To all of iOTW, all of the characters, all of our hosts, and especially to dear Claudia for her extra prayers in our times of desperate troubles and Anymouse for propping my weary mind up on long, anxious hospital nights with his unique gifts, may the Lord richly bless you even as you all have blessed me. I don’t truly know any of you, but my Lord does, and He is sure to reward such kindness as is meet, and may He buoy us all up in the troubled times ahead.

    God Bless,
    SNS

Merry Christmas everyone!!! This year “unmet” friends became actual “met in real life” friends! That’s what I’ll remember best about 2019. 🙂 Have a bigly holiday iOTWrs!

(Beautiful painting BFH!…whose little feet are those retreating into the woods?)

  11. Thanks, Fur…and Merry Christmas to you and yours! And to all the good folks that visit here!

Love the painting. And I love cardinals…such an elegant bird. But they ain’t real bright. For years, I’ve had male cardinals fighting with their reflection in the side mirrors on my car and truck. For hours on end, they throw themselves into the mirror, and shit down the side of the vehicle.

I thought I came up with a good solution…putting an old tube sock over the mirror. It did keep the birds off it, but most times I’d hop in the car and be half way down the road before I realized I had an old sock flappin’ in the breeze on the passenger side of the car. Apparently, I ain’t real bright, either…

  14. We LOVE you to pieces, Fur!! It’s been a heckuva year and we couldn’t imagine living through it all without you. Thank you for showing us your wonderful heart.

We have the star ornament you painted “Appeal to Heaven” hanging from our living room light fixture at Christmas time and the others are on the tree. I should send you some pics of them hanging on the lighted tree. Everyone who sees them asks about them because they are so different.

Hugs to you, Fur, and Merry Christmas.

  15. May God Bless and we all remember what Joseph did to get his Holy (new) Family in and out of Bethlehem!! For a Census for the purpose of taxes btw…

And, how he could have faced GREAT shame in his community at the time if he accepted Mary before that.

But, because he was visited by an Angel, he was rest assured he was doing the right thing!!

I wish we knew more about Joseph…he must have been an amazing man in addition to being an amazing father and husband…

@BFH I like how the fog is rolling over the trees in the backround.

Your painting has all what is supposed to be in a composition, fore, mid and backround…DEPTH, the evergreen trees and bird captures our attention the pond…the bare tree…

  16. Merry Christmas to all.

A Cardinal was my late grandfather’s favorite bird. We had one return to our home every year after he passed (still does) to dive-bomb the back porch, generally hang out there, and wait for goodies in the snow. Doesn’t take any guff from the Blue Jays, either. This is lovely. Thank you.

  17. Bubba Fur, the cardinal has special significance to me, thanks.
Even embroidered one on a pillow case, when I was about 12.
Slept with him until I went off to war.
Peace on earth and good will to men.

  18. No cardinals here in the Inland NW but my daughter and I did go to Coeur d’ Alene Lake this morning in N. Idaho at Higgins Point to view the bald eagles this morning feeding on the land locked Kokanee salmon during their spawning season. We saw at least 20 bald eagles, not as many as last year when Idaho Fish & Game counted over 300 bald eagles during this time. Merry Christmas everyone at IOTW, it’s going to be a great 2020.

  19. Merry Christmas to all and best wishes for a wonderful new year.

BFH, MJA, Dr Tar, thank you for another entertaining year of blogging and outstanding work. I especially appreciate the laughs here.
