Forty one years ago Karen Klaas was at home when she was sexually assaulted and strangled. The divorced spouse of Righteous Brothers singer Bill Medley died the next day in the hospital. It was the longest open case in Hermosa Beach, CA history, but based on DNA evidence recently gathered, officials believe that Kenneth Troyer was the killer.
Troyer is spoken of in the past tense, he’s been dead since the Orange County police shot him in 1982 after an attempted prison escape. How officials came to point the finger at the long dead Troyer hangs another tale of collecting DNA and doing a “familial DNA” search for suspects.
