Nanny Biden Comes for Menthols

WFB-

Inspired by Kamala Harris’s crusade against pot-smoking White House staffers, the Biden administration now seems determined to stop the rest of the country from having fun.

The administration is expected to announce this week a proposed ban on menthol cigarettes and other flavored tobacco products, according to the Washington Post. Supporters claim the ban will help curb youth tobacco use and boost public health.

As is often the case, the lofty rhetoric obscures a more dangerous encroachment of government on individual freedom. Plus, it’s racist, at least based on the standard of “equity” embraced by this administration. more here

  1. There is a lot to be said for leaving people the fuck alone. Unfortunately progs are hard wired to fuck with people.

There was a time in the not too distant past when a knuckle sandwich made this less of an issue. I liked things better back then.

  2. Heard a story once, cannot verify it, but it makes sense. Supposedly, the fed was going to ban menthol cigarettes a few years ago. When the news hit, a black civil rights group exploded, saying the government was targeting blacks because they smoke menthols at such a higher rate than whites. Of course, the fed immediately backed down and said they wouldn’t ban menthols. Right away, another black civil rights group started screaming that the government didn’t care if blacks died.

  3. Men smoke regular cigarettes without filters, drink black coffee, and after 5 whiskey, neat.
Women smoke filtered menthols, drink coffee with cream and sugar, and after 5 fruity cocktails.

  6. I’m one of those that wish cigarettes were never invented.

Never smoked them because I couldn’t breathe very well around them.

Pretty much everyone around me smoked, including my wife.

My trips to the doctor for sinus and lung issues became a regular thing once I started sleeping near her ashtray.

Before that, my bedroom was where I could escape the smoke and open a window for fresh air. I could always leave if I was some place with heavy smoke in the air.

I had no idea it was secondhand smoke causing my health issues until she was out of the house and the furniture and drapes stopped smelling of smoke. That was 1996. It took until 3 years ago before she stopped smoking in her own house because the grand-kids refused to visit her after they got old enough to know why they suffered from visiting her too.

I’m someone with a legitimate harm, suffering, and financial loss for over 20 years (during my marriage) from something I never used. They never admitted secondhand smoke’s dangers while I was exposed to it. Where’s my millions?

  7. Isn’t amazing. The feds and nanny groups are so concerned about youth and smoking yet many states have or will have legalized marijuana (all for the revenue, of course) and yet the feds are mum on that form of smoking. You see, there are alot of deadbeats that need their monthly checks and the money has to come from somewhere. If you recall in the late 90s there was a massive tobacco class action settlement where states would get in perpetuity money from the tobacco fund. So why would states legalize and encourage another form of lung damaging smoke inhalation?

  8. Can’t states just ignore the ban on flavored tobacco in much the same way states that have legalized marijuana ignore the federal government’s prohibition on marijuana?

  9. I could be wrong, but I can’t see the government actually banning any kind of tobacco product. To do so would cut into their precious taxes too much. I like a good cigar on occasion. The place I get them has raised the price of my favorite by nearly $2.00 per stick in the last 3 years. A pack of big brand cigarettes is beyond crazy, nearly $8.00 a pack. In my home state(A Republican Governor)wants to raise the taxes nearly 30 cents on all tobacco products. We’ll see if they actually follow through.
