New details emerge about FBI delay on Weiner laptop in 2016

Washington Examiner: New details have emerged about 2016’s “October Surprise,” during which the FBI found emails belonging to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on disgraced New York Rep. Anthony Weiner’s laptop, with the FBI official who found the emails speaking out for the first time.

FBI agent John Robertson, who worked in its New York office’s child sex crimes unit and was later cited (though not named) in Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s 2018 report on the handling of the investigation of Clinton’s unauthorized private email server, spoke with the Washington Post’s Devin Barrett for his upcoming bookOctober Surprise: How the FBI Tried to Save Itself and Crashed an Election. Robertson unearthed tens of thousands of Clinton emails in late September 2016 on the laptop belonging to Weiner, the husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, in a sex crimes case involving underage girls, but for weeks after being alerted, top FBI leaders (including fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, fired FBI agent Peter Strzok, and former FBI counterintelligence chief Bill Priestap) took little to no action to investigate.

A letter from fired FBI Director James Comey to Congress in late October about the email discovery, shortly after he was finally briefed on it, disrupted the election — and would be blamed by some for President Trump’s victory.

“The crickets I was hearing was really making me uncomfortable because something was going to come down,” Robertson said he later told Justice Department investigators. “Why isn’t anybody here? Like if I’m the supervisor of any [counterintelligence] squad … and I hear about this, I’m getting on with headquarters and saying, ‘Hey, some agent working child porn here may have [Hillary Clinton] emails. Get your ass on the phone, call [the case agent], and get a copy of that drive,’ because that’s how it should be. And that nobody reached out to me within, like, that night, I still to this day don’t understand what the hell went wrong.” more here

  1. I have prayed, since 2016 (yes, it was common knowledge that the FBI had Weiner’s laptop & the Hillary e-mails were on it … I even remember Weiner’s file was aptly named ‘Life Insurance’) & that someone in the NY FBI Office has made a complete copy of that hard drive & one day (SOON!!!) will come forward w/ it.

  2. With all the TREASONOUS BASTARDS in our government it’s amazing we are not full blown communist already. I think we are close enough to October now that if anyone wants to spring an October surprise they can go ahead and do it anytime. Carlos Danger’s life insurance file would be a good start.

  3. I guess this means we’ll get to the bottom of Grifty Joe’s Ukraine quid pro quo around September 2024. Ditto for all his and Hunter’s China scams. By then Joe will be in a long term care facility or dead. And Chris Wray, like Comey, will be just another weak man who did the bidding of evil people and was broken by Trump.

  4. It’s really a grave situation that the DOJ and FBI seem to be running a criminal protection racket. In other words, the exact opposite of what they’re supposed to be doing. And this here by Robertson is heartbreaking:

“Put simply: I don’t believe the handling of the material I have by the FBI is ethically or morally right. But my lawyer’s advice — that I simply put my SSA on notice should cover me — is that I have completed CYA [Cover Your Ass], and I have done so,” Robertson wrote. “Further, I was told by [Kramer] that should I ‘whistleblow,’ I will be prosecuted.”

This is why we have so much rampant criminality on the ground these days, because the example is set at that top.

  5. What’s kind of funny about the emails on Weiner’s laptop is that their storage there was very likely accidental and unintended. Neither he nor Huma may have even known all those messages were there.

How could this have happened? When you set up an Outlook account (or an account using some other centrally managed email system) you are asked if you want to “work offline”. Many people answer without knowing what that function entails. If you answer NO, then you have to be network connected to your mail server, and all your messages are stored on the remote server. If you answer YES, then the first time you log in, the ENTIRE CONTENTS of your account’s messages and folders are copied to your laptop so that you have access to them even when disconnected from the net. After that, your local mailbox contents is synced / updated every time to log in. All this happens in the background and all the user might notice is that the login process takes longer than expected (the first login can take a really long time if you have a lot of stuff on the server).

It’s definitely possible that the first time either Weiner or Abedin knew that his laptop had all those incriminating emails was AFTER the computer was seized by the cops. I can imagine what followed were a lot of OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHITs and some frantic calls on burner phones.

It is not surprising at all that Weiner’s laptop effectively disappeared and those emails are still buried somewhere in the swamp.

  6. Follow-up note: Any system administrator who manages an email system that handles sensitive materials and who fails to disable the “work offline” function is incompetent and/or negligent.

It is 100% certain that the personal assistant to the Secretary of State handles sensitive email materials. And I’m almost that certain that when Huma used her pervert hubby’s laptop for her work email, she was in violation of multiple security regulations and procedures on top of violating federal law.

  7. The democrats don’t pack Washington with supporters for no reason. That’s “insurance” in case they are caught doing something wrong.

The right to overthrow the government, and institute a new one, if it has become corrupt.

Is it corrupt enough for you to get 100,000 people together with fire arms and over throw it? No, you’ll make excuses….
