Passports Will Start Labeling Child Sex Offenders

Daily Caller: United States passports will start labeling child sex offenders, the Department of State announced Wednesday.

The State Department, which issues U.S. passports, will begin revoking passports of registered child sex offenders and updating them. Child sex offenders will be forced to apply for one that lists their “unique identifier” status, reported the New York Post. The Department of Homeland security will notify the State Department of the registered status of child sex offenders, thus initiating the status, reported the New York Times Friday.

“The bearer was convicted of a sex offense against a minor and is a covered sex offender pursuant to (US law),” the back cover of the passport will read. Smaller passport cards will no longer be issued to registered child sex offenders since there is not enough room to list the information.  read more

  1. So today’s rhetorical question is:
Why are we re-issuing passports to sex offenders in the first place???
Wouldn’t it make more sense to simply revoke the passport?
After all, if a passport may be revoked for non-payment of taxes, why shouldn’t it be revoked for something even more heinous?

  2. I’m curious, do felons get ‘marked’passports? I wonder what other ‘special’ marks are used. What about DUI, repeat offenders, especially those who kill? Will Kevin Spacey, his ilk, and other privileged, be so marked on the list and passport?

I am totally against any form of child abuse, however, the government tends to abuse the sex offender list. .

  3. Good step. Now let’s discuss ordering permanent Forehead Tattoos for violent crimes.

In related sex offender news, Anthony Weiner reports to prison tomorrow.

  4. Unless and until they really clean up the so-called “sex offender” list, this is probably not a positive thing. Even then, it’s wide open to governmental abuse. Does anyone remember back in the days of the old Soviet Union, when anyone who spoke out against the State was hustled off to a mental institution and branded a psychopath? I sure do.

Government labeling is never a good idea.

    IMHO.

  5. Singer Chris Brown who beat up that deserving wench Rhianna, got a felony, and he wasn’t allowed to enter other countries at all.

So, I guess a felon can get a passport, but other countries each decide if he/she can travel there or not.

My guess is, sex offenders shouldn’t even consider international travel now.

  6. Good idea.
Probably should mark known terrorists’ passports, too.
    And convicted murderers.

If the convicted child-molester was kept in jail, it wouldn’t need a passport – except maybe to go into the general population once or twice a month to get raped and beaten by the “ordinary, decent” criminals.
    DUH!
