An assault weapons ban that Democratic leaders have been reluctant to advance despite strong support among their rank-and-file members in the House just got its first Republican backer — Long Island Rep. Pete King.
“They are weapons of mass slaughter,” King said shortly after his backing became public on Congress’ website Monday.
“I don’t see any need for them in everyday society,” King said.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 was rolled out in February by Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), with 190 other Democrats onboard. An additional 11 lawmakers signed on after mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, left dozens of people dead and many more injured, with King being among the most recent.
Now I know why “Peter” is a synonym for “Dick”.
The first to go weak kneed and buckle. Now that he’s stuck his toe in the water expect more to follow. That’s the way of the republican sheep.

King was the first in the line to petition Pres Trump to aggressively clean up the MS-13 problem in his district of Long Island. Notice he didn’t call for the ban of MS-13’s “assault weapons” of choice, the machete?

Northeast republicans are democrats anywhere else in the country. Why they even call themselves republicans is beyond most outside the region. But it’s only partially their fault. When one lives under such tight control all your life, tight government control does seem normal.
