Al Molinaro dies at 96
Al Molinaro, who played the beloved chef at the drive-in on “Happy Days” … died in a Wisconsin hospital on Thursday.
Molinaro’s son confirmed the actor’s death … telling us he had very bad gall stones, but Al elected not to have surgery due to his age. He was 96.
On “Happy Days” he played Big Al Delvecchio, who started out as the chef at Arnold’s Drive-In. He eventually became owner of the Fonz’s fave hangout, and remained on the show for 10 years.
!snip!
He will always be Murray the Cop to me.
My dad and I watched dozens of Odd Couple episodes. Murray was always good for a belly laugh or two. Sad news to know he’s gone
Wow. Where does your right proper upbringing fall apart??
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Oh, here and there
Peace…to his family, friends, and fans
From Wikipedia:
He revealed in 1990 that he declined acting roles in movies offered to him by Garry Marshall. Molinaro said at the time, “I can’t work in movies with Garry because I’m so square that I won’t be in a movie that has four-letter words in it. . . . That puts me pretty much totally out of films these days. . . . You get to a point where you don’t want to do just anything for the career. You gotta live with yourself”.
Gotta respect that!
Just another fine upstanding American passing from the scene and leaving behind a world that increasingly rejects his view on life. Sorry to see him go. Hope and pray he knew the Lord.
I watched the Odd Couple Clip, there was a Golden Age for Sit Coms and we are long past it now.
Not just the writing, but the quality people on stage. You’re lose is a lose to the nation Mr. Molinaro.
I grieve the death of all New York City cops, even the ones that aren’t real.
RIP Al.
RIP
Enjoyed his work.
You can’t buy eyebrows like that.
