Supreme Court seems headed toward upholding Trump’s third try at a travel ban

AMN: The Supreme Court’s conservative justices sounded ready Wednesday to uphold President Donald Trump’s travel ban as a national security measure.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy said federal law gives the president, not the courts, the power to weigh threats from immigrants.

“Could the president ban the entry of Syrians” if he had evidence that some Syrians had chemical or biological weapons, Roberts asked a lawyer challenging Trump’s travel ban. The answer was obviously yes, the chief justice said, answering his own question.  read more

  1. “Do you want the president to say: ‘In six months we will have a safe world?’” Kennedy said in a sarcastic rejoinder.

“…when the court eventually issues a decision — likely by the end of June.”

So, we have to wait another 2 months for a safe world, and that’s OK?

Good question. Normally SCOTUS issues rulings in October, however, if my memory is on today, I think the underlying court order on appeal is an injunction. If so, the Court could issue something much earlier, if, and it’s still an if, the majority of the Court sides with the administration. Another possibility is the Court stays the injunction until October, however, that approach is just putting off until October what it can do before then,

That’s how it could work. we’ll see.

  3. The Executive Branch oversees enforcement of the laws. That’s what I heard for 8 years under Obama. He can just choose to enforce whatever or not to enforce whatever.

Fuck the unelected tyrants in robes. They are just issuing personal opinions at this point. Saying the President must re-start DACA when it doesn’t even exist as a law.

We’re long passed the time to play hardball. Move to censure, impeach or remove these judges. This grandstanding, with no basis in law whatsoever, must end.

  4. Cliche Guevara, I wonder about that all the time. Those robes aren’t going to enforce anything, so why does anyone pay any attention to them? I thought states were stupid who started issuing marriage certificates to gays just because 7 black robes told them to. The same for abortion, why haven’t states just said, “no abortions in this state?”
I get the other side of the coin that states like California and Illinois could just say, “no guns.” However, the right to guns is in our constitution, the right to murder and the right to marry the same sex are not in our constitution and are illegal laws made by 7 black robes.

  5. The Supreme Court the ultra-establishment with life-time appointment.
They’ve displayed their judicial moral compass on killing innocent unborn babies and Obama care.
The Supreme Court can’t be relied upon to do the right thing.

  6. the courts appear to be in pursuit of “their higher” ideals instead of interpreting the laws as they apply to cases brought before them.

congress can and should define which cases and laws can be reviewed by them.
this congressional power was put in place to keep the black robe dictators from dictating over the population.

this is what happens after decades of not very smart lawyers making laws as congressmen which are not well defined which end up resulting in a work program for these same lawyers to litigate on our tax dime.
