Target Targeted – Loses $9B in 1 Week Following Boycott

Calls for a boycott over LGBTQ-friendly kids clothing has damaged the company.

NYP-

Target has lost $9 billion in market value since angry social media users called for a boycott of the Minneapolis-based retailer over its rollout of the “PRIDE” collection featuring LGBTQ-friendly clothing for children.

A week ago Wednesday before the controversy erupted, Target’s stock closed at $160.96 a share, giving the big-box chain a market capitalization of $74.3 billion.

As of early trading on Thursday, however, shares of the company were trading off 1% at $141.76 — capping a weeklong tumble that has shrunk the “cheap chic” discount retailer’s value to $65.3 billion.

That amounts to a 12% drop that has shaved a whopping $9 billion off the company’s market capitalization.

Target said on Tuesday it was removing some items from its stores and making other changes to its LGBTQ+ merchandise nationwide ahead of Pride month after intense backlash from some customers who confronted workers and tipped over displays.

  1. We swore off Target when they booted the Sallvation Army off their property!
Frankly I’d like to see a hard-hitting expose on the CEO, board members and VPs who sanction this shit! They need to be put on display with pictures and embarrassed.

  2. I have seen the same Rainbow, love everyone crap at Kohl’s and Walmart. Just a little more low key. I also quit Target after they booted the Salvation Army. I was a frustrated I couldn’t quit them even more when they let men use the ladies room.

  3. I have not gone into a Target since they caught the “confused about who should be in which bathroom” virus. Looks like I still won’t buy at Target.

  4. @ TRF – I have been boycotting them for 7 years since the child, women bathroom, fitting room derangement.

@ Chickity – ditto! We need to include Nike and Adidas in that list for the same reasons.

@ Different Tim – Absolutely! I was already boycotting them, but this is another good reason.

Let’s boycott Major League Baseball for the OFFENSIVE INSANE OFFENSIVE DEMENTED WOKE plans for effing pride month.

And I want to see the LA Dodgers go down the drain for allowing a bunch of men dressed up as CATHOLIC NUNS to parade around, they are homos! they mock the CHURCH and Jesus Christ. They are mocking every one of us. They are grooming children.

Who knows how much crap more is coming up for MLB the rest of June.

Not to mention child grooming. Baseball used to be as American as apple pie. EF MLB now and forever and ever AMEN.

Mothers and Fathers get one day of celebration.
Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice get one day.
    Veterans living get one day.

I repeat myself, EF pride month and all who sail with her.

PS – The rainbow was God’s gift after the Flood, it is just another way of mocking Christians today.

  5. Zonga – I never liked Target in the first place, only I didn’t really know why. To me it always had a weird atmosphere that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. My wife and daughters liked it, but now even they have written off Target. I simply do not understand this race to the bottom!!

  6. Wait until the die-hard Trump supporters find out that their hero put on an LGBT party for them. DJT, Jr told everyone to not be so hard on Butt Light, they’re big donors to the Republicans. See, no scruples, morals, look the ot6her way, just like his pops. Let’s just see whose real moral values come out on election day.

  7. @TRF: It’s not just Target, WalMart had a full display of T-shirts, rainbow stuff for kids that say “PRIDE.” We don’t have a Target in town, and when I go to a town with a Target, I don’t shop there. I actually hate the store way before they went Woke. Take them all down, and those that want to stay in business, don’t go down the gay rode, it will be painful. It gives me some hope that people will fight back and fight back hard.

  8. Goldenfoxx – Both my wife and I think going to Walmart is like walking on to a nuther planet! That place and the people it attracts is just plain weird!

    Ditto!

Not that I disagree with any of the other comments.

I’m beginning to wonder if all the CEO’s are thinking “If we all do it, they have to buy from us anyway.”

    Bring back the “Shop Local…”
But there’s damn few “small business” left…

My ” key seems to be stuck…

Last month I read that Targay was on the verge of filing bankruptcy, was about to close over a hundred stores. So why are they still open?
    ————-

It’s their last ditch effort to appear relevant. Covid hurt every business, I think these companies would have made an effort to bring customers back, not run them off. I’m down to shopping at Costco, local grocery store where the chain is on the West Coast, and occasionally WalMart. ButtLight will never recover from their snafu, nor will Tar-Gay. tsk, tsk

  11. I wish I could claim I helped, but haven’t been inside a Target store since about 2012. Whoever buys for them started to buy trash and I could never find anything I liked.

    Buh bye!

Don’t sell yourself short. You have 11 years of batting 1000 on a boycott.

If you had bought even one item, that would be supporting them. You didn’t.

You are awesome in your stalwart consistent support of the cause.

Just because it was easy for you, doesn’t mean it wasn’t worthy.

    I salute you!

“If you’re serious about obliterating Targay, maybe we should talk.”

    Put Eddie Lampert in charge.

That oughta do it, all right…
