The province of Quebec is running out of electricity

Ice Age Now: “Hydro Quebec’s system is under serious strain as temperatures continue to drop and people’s electricity demands continue to rise.”

“The temperature in Valdor, Quebec, dropped to -50 C (-58 F) and -30 C (-22 F) in Montreal and Quebec city this morning, Saturday, with the wind,” says reader Pierre Demers.

“Hydro Quebec is asking the people to turn down their heating systems because Thursday the demand was 36,000 Megawatt and the Maximum of the utility is 38,000 Mg.”  MORE

  1. The reason Quebec is running low on electricity is because they’re selling most of the huge James Bay hydro-electric production from Labrador to New York (and I think some other eastern states). They screwed the Newfies years ago and are buying the juice from Newfoundland (Labrador is part of NFLD) for peanuts and selling for big bucks. I suspect the provincial government is loath to give up any of the US bucks and is instead telling the population to turn down the heat.

It never gets this cold in Canada, until it does. The price of harvested wood will go way up, as will coal deliveries.
