Sam Clovis served as a national co-chair on the Trump Campaign in 2016 when he was contacted by Stefan Halper for a sit down to discuss foreign policy on September 1, 2016. Halper wanted to talk about China and after the meeting sent e-mails with attachments to Clovis, with titles on China. Clovis was too busy to open the files or to ever get back to Halper. Now he believes the FBI operative was seeking a means to penetrate the campaign and sought to link members of the campaign to DNC hacking. More
Clovis’ account of being contacted by Halper can be added to Michael Caputo’s, who was in charge of communications in New York for the campaign, statements that he was approached by a different individual who offered the missing Hillary Clinton e-mails in May 2016. Finding the gift “kooky”, Caputo had the good sense to turn the proposition down, now suspecting it was an attempted to make him a fall guy for the DNC e-mail hacking. Here

Caputo’s claims may not be all the serious. Since there was an individual in the middle of these communications, Caputo may have gotten the wrong idea from the government contractor, who as yet remains unidentified.
