The US has acquired 81 obsolete Soviet-era combat aircraft from Kazakhstan, the Kyiv Post reported.
Kazakhstan, which is upgrading its air fleet, auctioned off 117 Soviet-era fighter and bomber aircraft, including MiG-31 interceptors, MiG-27 fighter bombers, MiG-29 fighters, and Su-24 bombers from the 1970s and 1980s.
The declared sale value was one billion Kazakhstani tenge, said the Post, or $2.26 million, equalling an average value for each plane of $19,300. more

It’s probably going to cost more than $20,000 each just to transport or fly them to the US.
They can sell parts to Boeing to replace all those parts that are falling off those planes.

Seriously, though, those Soviet era jets may have been technologically behind the times (even when they were new), but they were almost EMP proof, overbuilt and as robust as a brick shithouse.
When I was a kid there was a F-86 jet at Cabin John park that was set up in the playground area. Kids could climb into the cockpit and play with the control stick and also climb into the exhaust and crawl through the empty core of the plan and exit out the intake and ride a slide to the ground. I couldn’t find a picture of it on-line but look at this and imagine the ladders and slide attached to it. No way that would be allowed today.

20k per plane might be a good investment to ensure they would never be used against our troops or public (assuming they were even close to flight ready).

I have a pic of it.
It’s in the background of the picture.
The foreground is a scene of little cowboy hatted kid spinning the merry-go-round as fast as he could. The little girl on the merry-go-round is holding on for dear life (probably his little sister). Behind them, to the left, is the Aircraft/Slide/Ejection Training Simulator Station. Behind that is the woods. Those trees captured a lot of recon kites. Usually around March time frames.
If the pic could be panned to the left about 20 degrees you would see the big 10 seat swing set with extra tall swings that were in constant motion.
If the pic were panned to the right, you would see the little creek and the woods behind it. A skilled army ranger could clear that creek in one jump with a fast enough run and not get wet.
Does that sound like the place?
