  1. It’s H.R.H. Subaltern Princess Elizabeth of York (today, H.M. Queen Elizabeth Il) during W.W. II. She thought it was important to set an example and contribute to the British war effort. The British Army took her on and trained her as a vehicle mechanic.

I know that she’s considered a dowdy old sourpuss by many, but she really is a quality human being. I find her an inspiring figure. The Obamas would do well to emulate her twin senses of duty and decorum.

  2. Yahoo tooty fruit came out all about how close the Royals are with our Pretenders, Moochie and Barky,…I laughed my ass off. The Queen informed the WH she was NOT coming into London to host those two…..then she compromised and had them out to Windsor. …. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip looking like someone ate the last of their Corgis and the two grinning buffoons acting like :”see, we belong…we is here”….at the photo op…pfffft. Then the Mayor of London told the press the UK will not bow down to the Ugandan from DC and his pet, to stay in the EU which is what pissed off HM the Queen, Barky interefering in the affairs of a Sovereign Nation because he thinks he can..what a asshole he is.

  3. @Loretta in Indiana: As a constitutional monarch, the Queen is limited to non-partisan functions. Even if she were to speak her mind on the matter (as a practical matter, she would not), “getting all the barbarians out of the country” is not her job – it’s up to the Prime Minister and Parliament, who are supposed to be the representatives of the people. They are the ones to complain to, not the Queen.

    🙂

  4. My son, who is 13, thinks it is way cool that Queen Elizabeth II was a mechanic during the war, which goes to show that even young children can have an appreciation for duty for one’s nation–especially in a fight for freedom–as opposed to constantly demanding what one can get. Even the queen, my boy said, crouched down and got her hands dirty, she **worked**, even as royalty. I never said a word, but he voiced his understanding of the two moochers and economic abusers in our White House.

Out of the mouths of babes.

  5. HRH was an ambulance driver from shortly after her 18th birthday in 1944 until the end of hostilities. There was no such thing as power steering or power brakes or synchro-mesh transmissions and the clutch pedal required a lot more effort than anything built in the last forty years.
