A controversial project to release genetically modified mosquitoes in the Florida Keys to battle the disease-carrying Aedes aegypti mosquitoes started this week. Boxes filled with eggs, water and food are being placed in the Lower and Middle Keys.
The modified Aedes aegypti mosquitoes will be in six Keys locations: two on Cudjoe Key, one on Ramrod Key and three on Vaca Key, with the non-biting male mosquitoes starting to emerge in May, according to the British biotech company Oxitec, which is conducting the trial.
The male bugs will mate with the female mosquitoes, which are the ones that bite.
But a “death mechanism” built into the mosquitoes is meant to prevent viable female offspring resulting from the mating, according to Oxitec. More

I remember vacationing in the outer banks of NC in the 1960’s, and the DDT fogger truck coming through the campground every afternoon. The older kids who had bikes would follow the truck and ride in the fog. I think they are all dead now.

In any event, I’m not particularly concerned about mosquito’s developing allergies.
Ferrel hogs, killer frogs, Burmese pythons, swamp rats, Asian carp, gypsy moths, European green crabs, hundreds of invasive plant species… and 70 million Biden voters.
They should have released them in Bill “Desperate to Be Relevant” Gates’ neighborhood.

I’ve done a lot of research lately on why they are so intent on releasing hordes of GMO mosquitoes. Most people probably don’t know but years ago they were researching mosquitoes for use as “flying syringes”. Their words. And yes, all The Usual Suspects but most people probably don’t know that Google’s parent company also has a hand in all of this as well. And it’s interesting that the original parent company of oxitec developed from “General injectables and vaccines”.. true story. Gee, might there be a connection? And if so might it also explain why they want to release same mosquitoes in Texas, the only two states that are really putting up any fight? Oh and they were also toying with mosquitoes in Italy, the year before the pandemic started there.. Just wondering..
Oh and it’s kind of interesting what they’ve done with this latest generation of GMO that they’re so proud of. They’ve actually made them dependent on a drug that they can supply or withhold.. If the larvae don’t get the drug they die. In this case it’s a simple antibiotic. But gee, I’m sure we can trust that this sort of thing would never be used against human beings, right?
