Beto made many enemies in an El Paso real estate deal and they will remember on election day

NY Times

EL PASO — At a special City Council meeting in 2006, a billionaire real estate investor unveiled his vision for redeveloping downtown El Paso. To replace tenements and boarded-up buildings, he proposed restaurants, shops and an arts walk rivaling San Antonio’s River Walk.

Representative Beto O’Rourke, one of hundreds attending, wasn’t exactly a disinterested party.

Not only had he married the investor’s daughter, but as a member of City Council he represented the targeted area, including a historic Mexican-American neighborhood.

Calling downtown “one piece of El Paso that was missing on the road back to greatness,” Mr. O’Rourke, now the Democratic candidate for Senate in Texas, voted to take the first step forward with the plan.

Over the next two years, Mr. O’Rourke would defend the plan before angry barrio residents and vote to advance it. At other times, he would abstain. Business owners who opposed the plan accused Mr. O’Rourke of a conflict, citing the involvement of his father-in-law, the billionaire developer William D. Sanders.

  1. “Despite resentment over Mr. O’Rourke’s support of the redevelopment plan, many in El Paso say they will vote for him.”

Some populations are so stupid as to be undeserving of self governance.

  2. Funny how the Left is full of people who have tons of money and virtue signal and militate on behalf of the poor, as long as the huddled masses don’t interfere with their $$$$$$$$$$$. Another example would be American Samoa being the only US territory being exempt from the $7.25 minimum wage. Hhhhmmmmm, tuna factories? StarKist Tuna is in who’s district? Nancy Pelosi you say. And who’s husband has $17 million invested in the ultimate parent company of StarKist? He husband? Well, I’m sure she has a reasonable explanation for this. (Unfortunately, do to garbled speech, we won’t understand her response.)

Another case of Capitalism for Me and Socialism for Thee.

  3. I’ve been through El Pisshole many times over the last 4 decades. Unfortunately, I-10 passes right through it.
In that time I’ve see little substantial improvements over what I see on the other side of the border.
Likely there never will be, with the likes of beto running things.

  4. Beto’s F-I-Law is a multibillionaire (last name Sanders, as in Bernie) but Beto has been tweeting like mad looking for $$. Not odd…and the entire city of EP will prbly vote for him. Unless they #Walkaway.
