Jan. 10 (UPI) — Rep. Darrell Issa of California announced Wednesday he will not seek re-election this year, increasing Democrats’ chances of flipping his swing district in November.
“Throughout my service, I worked hard and never lost sight of the people our government is supposed to serve,” Issa said in a statement. “Yet with the support of my family, I have decided that I will not seek re-election in California’s 49th District.”
Issa, who joined the House in 2001, won re-election in 2016 by a half percentage point in a district that favored Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to President Donald Trump.
The absence of the 17-year incumbent will make it easier for Democrats to flip 24 seats to win back the House majority. read more
“You picked a fine time to leave (us), Lucille.”
Issa made some noise back in the day, but I think he voted Dem about as much as GOP: https://www.npr.org/2018/01/10/576889691/gop-retirements-hit-record-level-ahead-of-midterm-fight
One more term could have stabilzed that seat with all or most of Trumps initiatives bearing fruit. For the service he’s given he should be thanked, for leaving one term short he should be critized. I think November is going to be a lot harder then a lot of conservatives think.

Notwithstanding fancy hearings that have born little if any fruit, I beg to differ.
Too bad – Ed Royce is one of those great representatives that quietly do the job of the People.
Too bad he’s been a lone voice of sanity in an open-air asylum.
How does this make it easier? Will all the Republican voters resign, too?
Trump is draining the swamp!
