CHICAGO MOVES TO BAN SALE OF SINGLE SERVINGS OF ALCOHOL AFTER MIDNIGHT

Illinois Policy:

Chicagoans may no longer be able to purchase a 40-ounce bottle of beer or malt liquor after midnight.

A proposal to ban the sale of single servings of alcohol at stores between 12 a.m. and closing time has passed out of the Chicago City Council’s License and Consumer Protection Committee, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The proposed ordinance prohibits post-midnight sales of single servings containing less than 25 ounces of wine or liquor, and less than 41 ounces of beer or malt liquor.

Alderman Brian Hopkins, 2nd Ward, introduced the proposal. Hopkins said the purpose of the ordinance is to deter late-night panhandling outside package liquor stores and to stem public drunkenness and fights, the Sun-Times explained. However, the ban would not apply to all businesses that sell alcohol. It would only affect stores, not restaurants or bars. Hopkins said that while bar and restaurant staff are equipped to deal with intoxicated patrons, that isn’t true of retailers, according to the Sun-Times.  more here

  10. Always seemed like the only real purpose of selling these products is to serve the least wealthy alcoholic drivers.

    That is the only guys I see buying them. Either just getting off a day’s labor or just starting one. I was a manager of a store when I was 23 and, most days, some guy was waiting for 8 a.m. to buy one large beer or something like that. Looking at me and pointing to his wrist. Nope. Not yet, Amigo.

  12. Then there were the drunk college guys that came in after 3 a.m. and just walked out with a couple of cases. “We wanted to buy them, but you wouldn’t sell them.” as they left.

    Store policy was you got fired if you physically tried to stop a thief.

    I didn’t care so much due to that, but I suggested to regional that we chain the doors to those coolers if they don’t want this to become a “thing”. SMU was just down the street and arrogant entitled rich kids can do some of the worst s**t and feel no remorse. Daddy and his bank account will get them out of trouble. Again.

    Two days later we had locks and chains on them.

  23. The negro law makers are designing a law that will directly disproportionately effect only fellow negros. They are truly mentally ill. In a year from now they will be protesting and demanding the law be repealed after a Cop has to fight a savage with a 40 oz at 1201 am.

  24. I don’t know about that MBrown. I would set up a cooler full of “forties” across the street of popular bars. Sell for 3X the cost. That’s what gets you Cops “wrassling” savages or me.

    Eric Garner got it over a “onesie” cigarette and some other poor slob’s gonna get it over a beer. Rahm and the boys will come off squeaky clean.
