I’m not from the South and never heard of the rebel yell…
But nice to hear from chris cassone. Hope all is well with you and yours.
A recording of one of the old southern gentlemen in the video has been digitally enhanced, amplified and multiplied to simulate what it might have sounded like from a whole company of rebels. The first 2.5 minutes or so is a brief history. You can hear the enhanced recording and also the yell from a large group of reenactors starting at about 2:38 of the video at the link below:
It has long been said that hearing the rebel yell would strike fear into the hearts of the union soldiers – listening to this, I can understand why. When you heard it, you knew that there was about to be a lot of bloodshed and pain for everyone within hearing distance (including the rebs)..
doing a disservice to our countries fallen… but thank God the union prevailed…
