Hours after eating his roommate’s Asian restaurant leftovers, a 19-year-old college student in Massachusetts broke out in a rash, suffered multiple organ failures, and had to have both of his legs and parts of all of his fingers amputated.

The shocking episode first documented by the New England Journal of Medicine in March 2021 recirculated on the internet this week after a dramatized portrayal was uploaded on YouTube. Now some are taking the bizarre occurrence as a cautionary tale about the potential dangers of consuming leftover food. –more

  1. I thought everybody knew this: Experts warn against improperly storing leftover rice because rice, pasta and other foods contain a bacterium called Bacillus cereus. When heated and left out too long, the bacteria produce a toxin.

  2. So according to the video, he failed to get a “second” meningococcal vaccine at age 16?????

Wth is it with pushing vaccines? I’ve never heard of a person requiring a vaccine at age 16.

  3. And don’t give it to the dog if it has been in the fridge too long for human consumption. Unlike meat and a lot of other items the danger is not from the bacteria, it is from the toxins produced by the bacteria and while dogs have enzymes that can kill the bacteria itself they DO NOT have enzymes that neutralize the toxins.
