Easter Critters – IOTW Report

Easter Critters

Images from:

1 BENITO (YOUNG RED-TAILED HAWK) HERE IS A NEW YOUNG RED-TAILED HAWK FRIEND THAT ALWAYS SEEMS TO GREET ME WHEN I GO TO MY LOWER YARD. THIS IS FROM A WEEK AGO. (Benito said that he knows this isn’t necessarily an Easter photo, but I told him that at least it has flowers, so it will pass. Besides, you can’t very well put bunny ears on a hawk!)
2 FarmWife (Kippa) This is Kippa right before she chewed her ears. Wanted to get a better picture of her but she didnt want to cooperate.
3 Truckbuddy (Sammy)
4 Buster Brown (Harris)

Not Easter related, but very topical:

5 forcibly rearranged (Logan) Logan refuses to obey Gov. Bollock’s stay at home order.

  1. While these images are precious, the most precious image of all is the one of the empty tomb. Happy Easter Claudia, and to all the iotw friends and family.

  3. Red tailed hawks can exhibit interesting behaviors. A few years ago I had just arrived home when I heard the whistling sound they make. Looked up to the sky and saw 3 hawks flying in a perfect circle, 120 degrees apart, as the circle drifted north east. This lasted about one minute until one hawk broke off and flew away. The other 2 continued to fly in a circle, 180 degrees apart, for another few minutes before breaking from the circle and both flying off in the same direction. I hadn’t a clue about the purpose of the activity. Maybe it was just for fun.

Another time along a highway I saw a red tailed hawk slowly descending toward the ground at about a 45 degree angle. When he was about 3 feet above ground he flared his wings and slowly dropped vertically to the ground. It seemed to be to slow to be for the purpose to catch a field mouse. It was beautiful precision flying.
