Dems Having A Hard Time Picking Up Four Senate Seats

We’re about a month out from the election day and the Democrats are having a difficult time picking up the four seats they need to retake the Senate.  About the only pickup they seem sure to make is in Wisconsin where Ron Johnson is running 10 points behind Russ Feingold.

The Dem Senatorial Campaign Committee is abandoning Florida to Rubio and putting their money in races in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ohio where older white males are abandoning the party in droves.

In Florida, Democrats targeted first-term GOP Sen. Marco Rubio, considering his failed effort to fix the country’s problematic immigration system and him frequently abandoning Capitol Hill responsibilities to run for president made him unpopular among voters.

But with less than six weeks before Election Day, Rubio is maintaining a roughly 6-percentage-point lead. And the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is cutting back a planned advertising blitz in Florida, which includes canceling ads into early October.

The group, whose primary goal is to keep and win Senate seats, says it stands behind candidate Patrick Murphy. However, such a move late in the election cycle usually means a change in strategy in which such groups reallocate remaining money to states where TV advertising costs far less and they have better chances in November.

Democrats must win at net total of four or five seats to retake control of the Senate.

If the Dems don’t pick up seats this year they are going to really be in trouble in 2018 when they have lots of seats to defend in red states.   Here

  1. Shit, they couldn’t pick up a deaf, dumb and blind, mute, rabid hobo, rodeo circus clown in a shantytown bar if their lives depended on it at this point in the game. Even if they threw in an out of control dumpster fire, and free viagra sausage to boot!

  2. Just to play devil’s advocate here: How much good has it done us since the Republicans have controlled both houses of congress. Funny, I haven’t really seen much difference.

  3. Why do they care about gaining 4 seats? Why bother?
Mitch McConnell is doing a heck of a job for them already.

All I’ve read about the last 4 years is ole Mitchieboy running to a microphone or tv camera every change he gets (which is way to frequently) to brag about how he lead the passing some new bipartisan supported legislation that was biggest of the Obama era. He seems to think that is a good thing. Ah, sorry. No it’s not.

  4. Yeah, ole Mitch McConnel with the neck like a mating frigate bird doing a great job for us. Till he’s gone I don’t hope for any real opposition. He makes me want to puke.
