Illinois county votes to become ‘sanctuary county’ for gun owners

ktvb.com: An Illinois county’s board voted to make itself a sanctuary for gun owners and to not enforce laws that “unconstitutionally restrict the Second Amendment.”

The Effingham County Board approved the resolution 8-1 on Monday. Board members said they felt it was necessary to “take a stand” against gun control efforts in the Illinois legislature.

Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler told Fox News that they decided to “flip the script” and “make this a sanctuary county like they would for undocumented immigrants.”

Kibler admitted the action is largely symbolic and Sheriff Dave Mahon told the Effingham Daily News that the board’s decision would not dictate how his office enforces the law.

Mahon said the state passed a gun control law with dubious constitutionality, he would decide how to handle it after consulting with the state’s attorney and the legal counsel of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association.    more

  2. Saw this a few days ago. Called the county clerk there and got a copy of the resolution, and now I’m working with a local county commissioner to do the same thing here. Good on them!!

  3. I live a few hours south of Effingham, and believe me, this part of Illinois is where we cling to our guns and our religion. People have to understand that there are 102 counties in this state, and 101 of them are mostly conservative. If California succeeds with it’s break up, I pray that we’re next.
