John Dingell Berry Calls For the Abolishment of the Senate

WashTimes

Former Democratic Rep. John Dingell, the country’s longest-serving congressman, called Tuesday for the abolishment of the Electoral College and the Senate, arguing against the “disproportionate influence of small states” that paralyzes the lawmaking and electoral processes.

Mr. Dingell, who represented Michigan for more than 59 years from 1955 to 2015, wrote an op-ed for The Atlantic offering a series of suggestions that he said would restore the public’s trust in the federal government. He called for an end to “minority rule” in Congress, saying it’s “antiquated” and “downright dangerous” that all states get two senators regardless of population.

“California has almost 40 million people, while the 20 smallest states have a combined population totaling less than that. Yet because of an 18th-century political deal, those 20 states have 40 senators, while California has just two,” he wrote. “These sparsely populated, usually conservative states can block legislation supported by a majority of the American people. That’s just plain crazy.”

Mr. Dingell argued that the Electoral College has the same flaw, giving “disproportionate weight” to small states. He called for its complete abolishment and for combining both chambers of Congress into one.

Former Democratic John Dingell: (sorry after a self edit headline confused me, now it makes sense.) ‘still pee’d my pants a little laughing’. Mr. Dingell , (please stop it!) Argued, way too much ,, Hahaha, Sorry BFH, sometimes you need to be less humorlessly descriptive. This is a GEM!

  3. Dingbutt seems to be advocating for the overthrow of the Constitution which is considered Treason by most Originalists which is still a death penalty offense. I believe the guilty still has a choice of firing squad or hanging. Let us know when you’ve made your choice– I’ll bring the popcorn.

    Leftist-Marxists. (SPIT!!)

  4. I guess the addled old fool thinks a few heavily populated states should run the show and the rest of us should just shut up and do as we’re told.
The problem with that is we don’t want to just shut up. You people were sent to DC to manage the affairs of state, not to tell us how to live. The key word there is manage, not control or oversee.

  5. The asshole doesn’t understand that this governmental structure was well thought out a long time ago and it was designed exactly to protect the citizens from people just like him.

  6. Does he not understand that’s EXACTLY why this was done? He probably also doesn’t understand that it was his own (northern) and the new england states that demanded the 3/5ths law regarding slaves for the apportionment of the house of “representatives”.
I WOULD get behind a bill to repeal the 17th amendment. Even better; I would get behind a bill that eliminates all congressional retirements. It’s a DUTY, not a career!

  7. …don’t think you can just laugh this off. One of the reasons that England is the way it is NOW is that the House of Commons effectively neutered the House of Lords in Parliament THEN. And Democrats love every example of international “law” that can push us into dictatorship through mob rule…

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2000/jan/20/lordreform.constitution5

…make no mistake. Democrats are ruthless and lawless, and will eradicate every last vestige of Rule of Law and overturn out very system of government by any means necessary to rule us with absolute authority. They are evil, but do NOT make the mistake of thinking that means they’re stupid. They’ve been putting this together for 60 years, have ALREADY vastly eroded the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, ALREADY severely restricted our access to firearms, AND have degraded education to the point that the NEXT generation may not even know we have a Senate NOW.

…in a just world, we would take him at his word. His word is Treason, and should be treated as such.

    …in a JUST world…

  8. Dingell’s comments give proof to my observation that the term (Dem) following the published names of some politicians does not stand for democrat. It stands for demented

  9. The Senate (and the Constitutional “Balance of Power” amongst the People, the States, and the Federal Gov’t) was rendered castrato after the passage of the 17th.
What Dingell suggests is the coup de grace to the Republic.

These people aren’t American in any sense of the word. They are Traitors – Treasonous filth parading as human – and no longer hiding behind their lies.

I thought he was dead. Can anyone prove otherwise? Just because he votes and issues “Op-Eds” doesn’t prove he’s alive (being a Demonrat from Michigan, and all).

    izlamo delenda est …

  10. So he was the first idiot elected to Congress that didn’t understand the branches and the reasoning for creating the 2 chambers with different representations.

And all this time, we thought it was Occassional Cotex.

  11. I seem to recall that they unhooked the jumper cables from Frankenberry’s neck and dragged him to the Senate to be a deciding vote on Obamacare.

Equal representation for all states in the Senate is what makes our States of America “United”. What he is doing is an attack on the stability of our country.

Why shouldn’t we abolish The House first? Oh, right. Because they win the majority.

A long time ago, I realized Democrats don’t recognize any authority as being higher than their own. But they are happy to lord those outdated institutions over you. Respect The Office if not the man they say.

They only respect Power and will murder their mothers in their sleep to get it.

  12. Well, OK, we can talk. I’ll go along with the big change if, IF, only taxpayers can vote, and all ballots are printed in English. People who live on government (our) largess are not permitted to vote, nor are people without a legitimate birth certificate.

  13. John Dingleberry’s wife succeeded him in the house seat that he held for 59 years in 2015. Before he held that seat, his father held it for 22 years. A Dingleberry has held that seat for over 80 years! This is not what our founding fathers intended.
