MORON OF THE MOMENT- Nick Gillespie

My apologies to any Nick Gillespie admirers out there, but his latest article for the NY Times is all the proof I need to show anyone upset with me just how much of an asscrack this guy is.

Here are a few morsels of mindlessness to savor-

Republicans Are Exploiting the Murder of Mollie Tibbetts.

Immigrants commit fewer crimes than native-born Americans. But the party doesn’t want to talk about that.

Virtually all research concludes that immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants, commit fewer crimes, including violent crimes, than native-born Americans (among other things, they do not want to draw attention to themselves). In 2016, the Cato Institute’s Alex Nowratesh writes, “the homicide conviction rate for native-born Americans in Texas was 3.2 per 100,000 natives while it was 1.8 per 100,000 illegal immigrants and 0.9 per 100,000 legal immigrants.” In raw numbers, 32 undocumented immigrants and 28 legal immigrants were convicted of homicide in Texas, compared with 746 native-born Americans.

How the Republican Party became the champion of closed borders and the police state necessary to enforce them is something of a mystery.

Let’s start with “virtually all research concludes that immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants, commit fewer crimes, including violent crimes, than native-born Americans.”

Ditzy Gillespie cites one libertarian study by the Cato institute, one that has been debunked by anyone with some working brain cells, and characterized it as “virtually every study.” Gillespie cites no other studies in his asinine proclamation. He’s peddling in asscrackery.

How do we know his assertion is ridiculous? All anyone has to do is look at the prison population.

The Center For Immigration Studies-

The Bureau of Prisons is responsible for the custody and care of federal inmates. As of December 2017, BOP has custody of 38,132 known or suspected aliens. This represents approximately 21 percent of the total BOP population — meaning that one in five BOP inmates is an alien.

Of the 38,132 known or suspected aliens, approximately 66 percent were unlawfully present in the United States.

Some analysts charge that the reason there are so many aliens in federal custody is that they are there for primarily immigration-related offenses. This is certainly true, as about 29 percent of aliens in BOP custody have committed immigration offenses such as illegal reentry after removal.

But most of the aliens are incarcerated because of other federal crimes they committed. According to the report, 46 percent of these aliens committed drug trafficking or other drug-related offenses, which was the largest crime category committed by aliens in BOP custody. The remaining 25 percent committed a variety of other criminal offenses, including fraud, weapons charges, racketeering, and sexual crimes. Clearly, the large population of aliens in BOP custody cannot simply be explained away by immigration crimes.

Illegal aliens make up conservatively, about 3% of the population. I’d say they are vastly overrepresented in our prison system, no?

So how is the all-American kid next door a bigger threat than the illegal alien? Gillespie? Gillespie?

I’d like to play poker with Ditzy because the guy knows “virtually” nothing about percentages and risk assessment.

A border wall is BIG GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!?  This is what passes as intellectualism over at Reason magazine?

Basic national security, protection from invasion, is BIG GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!?

Shut up, stupid. A secured border is not what any conservative would ever characterize as a government out of control!

I’ll leave you with this one. Gillespie actually peddles this bit of propaganda –

Conservatives who used to talk passionately about family values have shown little empathy when the Trump administration has separated migrant families crossing the southern border or when ICE agents have arrested fathers accompanying their wives to give birth.

He’s actually trying to peg ICE as heartless because they detained a guy WANTED FOR MURDER. Gillespie actually links a lefty source, one that has reported that the man detained was a case of “mistaken identity.” (They say it was the brother that was the murderer. Uh huh.)

Here’s the last update I can find on the story (which means the left dropped it because they know the guy is the murderer.)
