New Balance Plays Footsie To Get Into The Military

Real Clear Politics has an expose this week on New Balance’s effort to become sole supplier of running shoes for the military.

First, NB took a secret Obama Administration quid pro quo deal to support the Trans-Pacific Partnership treaty in exchange for the “big, sweet military contract.”

Turns out the Administration couldn’t deliver and the Department of Defense rejected the shoe company’s three models offered for military consideration “due to both cost and quality.”

Now NB is trying to get Congress to give it sole possession of the military market by making the DoD have to source its shoes from American made manufacturers only, which for running shoes is only New Balance.

  1. How can you support the trans-pacific partnership on one hand and then propose legislation that would force the government to purchase “only” your product?

How much money was given to obama and the democratic party by NB for this failed “deal”? How much more money will they spend to grease Congress?

    Pay to Play?

  2. NB has a good point actually.
As all tax money is taken from us, why shouldn’t ALL goods and services come from us?
Government purchases of foreign products should be outlawed.

  3. One of my priorities if I were President would be to have the government promote American commerce by not using foreign goods unless there was no American product available. (E.g., I’m not sure coffee is grown anywhere in the U.S.) So it would be no more Frog wines served at the White House, military uniforms made here, etc.

  4. greetings, Our Federal Government subsidies Federal Contractors for placing work in other specific countries other than ours. It’s been going on for a long time. I see it weekly. And then theirs the “Work Share Program”. If somebody like Raytheon sells a weapons system to say South Korea, South Korea gets to build most of the machined parts for said weapons system. I could go on.

  5. Just Sayen, I don’t sleep. I now make precision AR-15 and AR-10 tactical weapons and God Damn California is moving a bill forward that would make tha illegal in this state predicated on the Terrorist Attacks that occurred here.
So if you’re wondering why I’m a Trump fanatic, there you go.
