KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – An Ohio man is being charged for falsely reporting an incident after claiming he’d been attacked by a bear, allegedly in order to get help getting out of the woods in Kanawha County.
According to a criminal complaint from Kanawha County Magistrate Court, first responders were called in the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, to assist a man in the woods. Dispatchers said the man claimed he was injured and stranded along a steep terrain.
The KCSO and dispatchers said while on the phone with him the man said “Please help me!” and that he was being attacked by a bear. The man also allegedly claimed that he had been walking for days, his phone was dying and that the bears were circling him and he was going to die.
The man was later identified as Christian Leonhardt, 47, of Brecksville, Ohio, according to the complaint. more

Just drop him back where they found him wwith what he had and let nature take its course. If he makes it out, fine.
…while I don’t know what this particular guy’s kink is, it isn’t uncommon for some folks, particularly older folks, to call emergency services just to get some attention and feel someone cares about them. Munchausen’s can be an issue with any age, but it seems to be a sad reality that older folks as a group are more likely to be so neglected that they get that desperate for human contact, even if it comes with needles and masks.
If he finds out that bears really do shit in the woods maybe, he’ll also find out if the Pope is Catholic as well.
Intoxicated – I wonder with what, and why he was alone. Always have a partner when hiking, especially in unknown territory when planning to get trashed.

…there’s, like, a half-dozen operators at a 911 call center and they are there to relay short, emergency communications, not discuss points of law or tell you why the police do this or that. And they CERTAINLY aren’t there to talk the cops into being your political bullies.
