Justin-Lee Schultz is a 14 year-old prodigy from South Africa, living in the U.S. now.
He is a piano player. Here he is jamming with the incomparable Jesus Molina at the NAMM show when he was 12.
Oh, before we get into the punch line of this post, take a look at Jesus Molina at a previous NAMM show. Yes, this is the same Jesus Molina. His weight loss is one of the most remarkable things I have ever seen. The clip above is 2020. The clip below is 2018.
Well, here’s another revelation that s simply amazing.
Justin-Lee Schultz says he “fools around” on the guitar and is “not a guitarist.”
Hokay—
Wonderful!
So many talented people out there!
That weight loss is impressive!
Love the t-shirt too.
All glory to God.
All The Glory To God! JS Bach wrote on his completed works too
Obvious immense technical mastery and speed. But, I am not hearing any coherent melody, just fast runs. But then, I never “got” jazz or classical. Maybe my deficiency.
I’m learning the guitar, started last couple of weeks after watching my daughter’s acoustic and electric gathering dust for a decade.
Do I need to act like a lobster is pinching my balls to be legit?
I can’t even play a kazoo….
@Douglas, yeah, I was never cool enough to “get” Miles Davis.
He sounds like a kid playing a balloon.
I like Jazz, it just has to make some sense, musically.
Musical talent not withstanding, I like how the two were enjoying themselves and each other while playing the 88’s.
Amazingly gifted and just unbelievable! Mesmerizing whatever he plays.
Beautiful! The weight loss (terrific!), the piano and the guitar.
Did a little singing in my younger days. Can’t read music, but that doesn’t stop me. Never had any training, but have always wished that I could play an instrument. Had a piano class in college. I needed one credit, so it was just a “here’s the keyboard, have at it” class. Fun, but I just memorized the tune I made. Enough to pass the class, at least!
Thanks, Fur! This was amazing.
What astounds me about the weight loss is where is all the loose, drapey, wrinkly, hanging skin?
As for jazz, it definitely is an acquired taste. When jazz seems chaotic it still all hangs together nicely. You’d definitely know it if the music didn’t make sense. It would be jarring to the ear.
Dr. Strangechord is in the house.
Very impressive.
Followed by the age old question after a display of extraordinary prodigious fingering athletics…
“But can he write?”
If you always wished you could play the piano, you might have pianist envy.
I never “got” jazz. Blues, Rock, Blues Rock, Psychedelic Blues/Rock, Heavy Metal, Bluegrass and Baroque are more to my liking.

OpenTheDoor – “…make some sense, musically.” That’s it. Jazz I have always loved; Coltrane’s “Favorite Things”; Les McCann & Eddie Harris, the Swiss Movement album; Mose Allison (too bad he’s a deranged Lib); “Take Five” – Brubeck. Probably much more that has a discernable melody.
Is this jazz that got on The Silver Dollar Survey; “Midnight in Moscow”; Tijuana Brass; Al, Hirt – “Java”?
