With the closing of the Longannet Power Station last week, Scotland has completely sworn off coal as an energy source.
“ScottishPower has shifted much of its focus to renewable energy development and has six new onshore wind farms under development involving an investment of over £650 million.”
They already operate 30 wind farms “representing 1,600 MW capacity.
The Scottish Government wants to be 100% renewable energy by 2020.
This better not affect the production of scotch whisky!
Consider that a warning.
I’ll bet those kilts get a little drafty as the ice age starts rolling in.
Good thinking, Scots. Now in two months you can leave The UK after Brexit. That will fix things.
Well, for a hilly peninsula like Scotland, there may be enough wind consistently year round to be able to go 100% wind. . . .but I just can’t wait until the Immutable Law of Unintended Consequences kicks in. . . . .mountains of dead and chopped up birds . . . . the ground vibrating and warming up under the windmills. . . . and these are only the two that I’ve heard about. I’m sure there’s many more being ignored by the EnviroNazi Greeniacs (until they get bitch-slapped by reality).
Reminds me of this meme I saw online:
“What did socialists use before candles?”
“Electricity.”
I thought we were supposed to be frugal!
What a way to fuck up the countryside! Useless and can support themselves. Kills protected eagles and bats and no one cares. Cut a tree down with eagles nest, go to jail….. Rip off.
Obviously this decision was made in a pub. Around closing time.
wanna bet they start buying power from the rest of britain to make up for shortages?
What next–putting together a whaling fleet for whale oil lamps?
What were they using for fuel that was not renewable?
Helium?
The earth produces prodigious amounts of oil and natural gas continuously.
They blend in so nicely don’t they? I hardly notice them.
Nae, Laddie! I nae ken it! Hoot mon!
One of their own is betting on something too.

I wonder how much the English taxpayer is actually paying for this? England should have taken advantage of the recent separation referendum and started negotiations to cut Scotland loose. If they did that they would almost immediately have a fully conservative majority in parliament.
Nothing like snuggling up close to a wind mill on a cold fidget Scottish night. I’ll give them 6 months, and then it will be torches and pitchforks..
Oh good grief. I was married in Scotland. It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Yeah, I want to see those pinwheels dotting the landscape across the Isle of Skye or in the distance of Eilean Donan. NO! Makes my desire to go back for our 20th wedding anniversary even less likely because of potential terrorism (to and from) and eco stupidity. Best to remember it the way it was.
It’s the Aliens!

Sorry for the bandwidth waste, didn’t realize it would embed.
because consistent reliable electricity is so over-rated
Admit it. They just wanted to cover castle landscapes with gigantic Nordic runes.
Give-em 20 years and they will look like this:

.
Well; We can drop the Polish jokes.
The Scotts have volunteered for the “new stupid”.
Seems legit. I hear Scotland really blows.
If it eliminates bagpipes, I’m all for it! 🙂
John,
That’s “stoopid”.
Is it true that Scottish babies have big heads so that they won’t fall out during the bridal dance?
Kinda funny, if you think about it. A Scot (Maxwell) discovered the principles behind electricity (unified electro-magnetism), coal IS renewable, and the wind is inconstant.
Scotland went through about 50 yrs of brilliance then turned to shit. I guess all the smart ones emigrated …
