Soros Clears FCC Approval on the Way to Acquiring 200 Radio Stations

Boston Hearld

Facing major pushback, the FCC has given the greenlight for WEEI’s owner Audacy to transfer its licenses to a George Soros-backed nonprofit, as the company emerges from bankruptcy.

The FCC’s approval on Monday came about seven months after U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas OK’d Audacy’s reorganization plan — which included Soros’ investment firm becoming the biggest shareholder of Audacy. Soros is the billionaire backer of Democratic politicians and causes.

The company’s reorganization plan is slicing more than $1.6 billion of Audacy’s debt — an 80% cut from $1.9 billion to $350 million. Audacy has more than 200 local radio stations, including WEEI, which has seen a major drop in ratings over the last several years.

The decision from the FCC on Monday was opposed by two commissioners, who blasted the license transfer timeline. More

  1. Gee, I wonder if the FCC would approve Trump Media to buy 200 radio stations in an expedited fashion at fire sale prices a little more than a month away from the general election? This is a rhetorical question because as jellybean pointed out, we know what side “our” govt. is on and it ain’t our side. It shouldn’t be either side in a perfect world.

  2. It’s not enough for them to own the broadcast media, print media, education system, Hollywood and the courts. They have to own EVERYTHING and still will not be satisfied.

  3. I listen to the radio in the car. I listen to the radio as I go to sleep. I also rest my buggy whip on another radio….Didn’t Direct TV just by up all of the radio stations and buggy whip manufacturers?…

  4. It’s definitely a valid concern! The timing of such a significant acquisition so close to an election raises questions about media influence and fairness. It seems like the regulatory environment often reflects deeper political dynamics rather than truly serving the public interest. Ideally, the government should remain neutral and ensure a level playing field for all voices in media.

  5. This is commies supporting commies. The revolution is all and all is revolution. If they disarm us we are finished… forever. We are nearing the point where we will have to stand against them or be disarmed. We can do nothing about the underlying corruption and criminality but we MUST hold the line regarding private ownership of firearms. We would be better served to remove most of the unconstitutional and malicious regulation that hamstrings our second amendment rights now, though this will be difficult to do in the face of the tyranny we currently oppose.
