University of Vermont Will Remove Former President Who Supported Eugenics

DC: The University of Vermont voted to remove the name of a former university president off a campus building due to his support for the eugenics movement that led to the involuntary sterilization of women, French Canadians and American Indians.

The school’s board of trustees voted Saturday to remove Guy Bailey’s name off of Guy W. Bailey/David W. Howe Memorial Library, The Associated Press reported.

“We reached our recommendation based primarily on the fact that Bailey’s active involvement as president of the University in supporting and promoting the Eugenics Survey of Vermont is fundamentally at odds with the University’s mission,” Ron Lumbra, the committee’s chair and trustee, said, according to UVM Today on Thursday. “We also considered Bailey’s mismanagement of University financial resources.” more

  1. I would like to see Karl Marx’s name removed from all commemorative places and things because of all the bad things his idiotic economic ideas have caused for millions – heck, billions – of people world-wide.

  2. I din know, folk, but I always thought eugenics makes a lot of commonsense. Hitler aside, we should want the brilliant and the strong and the beautiful to breed, and the more our herd is bogged down…. …You know what wolves do to the weaker in the moose packs….? Supper!

It might be nice to coo over, here and there….. ….but, except for specific examples, “breeding weak” lacks prudence, evolutionarily, and commonsense-wise.

  4. I despise eugenics, but don’t touch its history. They named a building after him. Let it stick to the “progressives” like flypaper. How would we react if leftards wanted to expunge the history of the demonrat party for supporting slavery?
