Facebook Exec: Girls Face “Toddler Wage Gap”

Speaking at a summit in Switzerland last week, Facebook Sheryl Sandberg claimed that little children are now facing a “toddler wage gap.”

“We have a toddler wage gap,” Ms. Sandberg said. “The boys are taking out the trash, it takes less time than cleaning the dishes and they get bigger allowances. We start out in our homes with these very different expectations and the time spent on these tasks is incredibly important.”

She continued, “Mothers will systematically overestimate their sons’ crawling, and underestimate their daughters.'”

Biases toward specific genders is like racism, Ms. Sandberg continued.

“Men are promoted based on potential, women on what they’ve proven. Same as race. A white-sounding name on a resumé versus a black-sounding name is worth eight years of work on a resumé,” she explained.

Before joining Facebook, Ms. Sandberg was the Vice President of Global Online Sales at Google.

  4. When I was a tyke I was given a specific set of chores which were defined as whatever my pop decided that I was supposed to do–mow grass, paint a fence, clean out a shed, etc.

    I don’t remember getting paid for any of it. It was part of my contribution for being sheltered and fed.

    And what exactly is 8 years of work worth? She’s the one quantifying it, so if a black engineer worked 8 years he would be up for just as much consideration as the cracker with 0 years experience? I don’t think so, honey. There’s a thing called affirmative action that got the blacks the job over the crackers in the first place.

  10. Hmmm. Melinda Gates was at this same summit. She was a lowly programmer at Microsoft until she married Bill Gates. Now, she is on all kinds of forums and foundations attempting to rule the world with the benefit of Bill’s money and last name…but Ms. Sandberg doesn’t have a problem with that, does she?

  14. Just curious, but does that means the HOURs I spent shoveling snow, mowing the grass in summer, and all the other many chores BOYs usually have while my sister spent maybe 30 minutes doing dishes each evening somehow means the $10 we each got each week showed she was being paid too little?

    I think this witch needs to go back to being unknown and stupid rather than known and stupid, it will look better on her resume’ !!

    P.S. No matter what Facebook is paying her, if it’s not a negative number they are paying her too much. Even if she is female.

    In my household the boy is all mama’s problem because I don’t want to go to jail and the girl is smarter than both of them combined. Dad controls the majority of the money.
