“My campaign was intended to offer the gubernatorial experience with the track record of a true conservative, experienced in national security, to unite the party.” Gilmore said in a statement sent to the Washington Examiner. “My goal was to focus on the importance of this election as a real turning point, and to emphasize the dangers of continuing on a road that will further undermine America’s economy and weaken our national security.”

  1. Meh. He wasn’t a bad governor. He was determined to do away with our “car tax,” but was only able to cut it in half. This set off revenue shortages in every county across the state, and the whining was awful. He was the last “R” gov we had that remembered that the plank was built on low taxes, so I’ll give him credit for that.

He was gov when 9/11 hit, and I remember taking my toddlers to pre-school that day and being grateful that it was an “R” running the state, who was serious about protecting citizens and all of our military bases and naval stations, which was where we thought the next inevitable hit was coming.

    So long, Jimbo.
